Not the best of the Foreigner series, but fun.

I've listened to all of the books in this series multiple times. I'm a big fan of the overall series and of the author's work, but like with most things like this... some are better than others.

Still, if you're interested in reading this book, chances are the series hooked you long ago! Plenty of twists and turns. Plenty of the characters we know and love. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful

A favorite of the whole series. As the only interpreter between humans and the alien atevi, Bren observes the many parallels between the species. But he also sees up close how culture and biology separate the two species and those insights make for a fascinating story. This is a fun book in the series because we also learn about cultural differences between atevi ethnicities and Cherryh descriptions of the Edi people add a lot of texture to a fairly politic part of the series arc. This is not the book to start if you haven't read the series, you really must start at the beginning. But for fans it has a great deal of the best parts of any Cherryh story, the complex characters. Ilisidi, Banichi and Jago stand out. Cajeiro is as precocious as ever. None of this would work without a first rate narrator and Daniel Thomas May continues to be phenomenal. I am re-listening in anticipation of the upcoming release of a new book and am reminded all over again why I have loved this series for all these years.

narrator effortlessly performed multiple characters from the book, leaving no doubt as to whom was speaking. brought out an added dimension to the story. Entire Foreigner series highly recommended.

it feels like she is churning out books at this po

well the writing is as good as you'd expect, she doesn't really go anywhere in this book, kind of like the last couple. I feel like this is stereotypical of this publisher to push for more quantity over substance. I won't complain about being able to spend more time in this world which is a pleasant thing but one does question if there are more important topics to explore or interesting places to go

Always a pleasure

Love Cherryh' s close third-person. In this trilogy, she now migrates expertly between Bren and Cajaeri, the two most culturally hybridized characters in the cast, and perhaps the most similar to each other in not entirely belonging wherever they find themselves. Pleased with this now-extended return to diverse geographies (the seaside, in this installment) and in-depth planetside politics. The flow of events in this novel feels slightly choppy, perhaps punctuated more than previously with intermittent episodes of high action - but no great complaint here. May's performance is sterling, though with one or two moments of confusion between characters or dialogue/internal monologue. Excited about wry introduction of two new characters from the Guild. Overall, love this one and can hardly wait to start the next!

sequence 4, 10 books in and its still great

This is going to be a review of all 3 books in this sequence.

This story arc gets a little political but its part of the main story so you want to read them even if political stuff is something you hate.

This one takes place directly after the last sequence which is a little different than the other sequences of books, those usually had a good ending that you could just wait and read the next sequence later but this one is almost the same story a direct continuation.

The whole planet is all messed up and even the Human continent is having problems and really its up to Bren to get things fixed, he gets his own estate and everything.

I really love how this whole series of books has gone so far and although this is only a 4 star review that's because it was a little less exciting as the other sequences but its still great.

the plot thickens

This entire series is now 19 books, and the story grows and changes over 3 book story arcs. I have never been bored or disapointed with plots and circumstances. C.J. Cherryh has been one of my most favorite authors since I started reading her books in the mid 1970s.

Heroe's Homecoming!!!!!

Did you expect parades and congratulations?
Did you really think everything will be so easy?

Aiji-dowager and paidhi-aiji are not here to supervise for 2 years, what will happen meanwhile?
