Acerca de esta escucha

The classic Western, now newly repackaged as part of Bantam's Louis L'Amour's Lost Treasures program - with never-before-heard material from Louis and his son, Beau L'Amour.

It was just a godforsaken mountainside, but no place on earth was richer in silver. For a bustling, enterprising America, this was the great bonanza. The dreamers, the restless, the builders, the vultures - they were lured by the glittering promise of instant riches and survived the brutal hardships of a mining camp to raise a legendary boom town. But some sought more than wealth. Val Trevallion, a loner haunted by a violent past. Grita Redaway, a radiantly beautiful actress driven by an unfulfilled need. Two fiercely independent spirits, together they rose above the challenges of the Comstock to stake a bold claim on the future.

Louis L’Amour’s Lost Treasures is a project created to release some of the author’s more unconventional manuscripts from the family archives. In Louis L’Amour’s Lost Treasures: Volume 1 and Volume 2, Beau L’Amour takes the listener on a guided tour through many of the finished and unfinished short stories, novels, and treatments that his father was never able to publish during his lifetime. L’Amour’s never-before-heard first novel, No Traveller Returns, faithfully completed for this program, is a voyage into danger and violence on the high seas. Additionally, many beloved classics will be rereleased with an exclusive Lost Treasures postscript featuring previously unpublished material, including outlines, plot notes, and alternate drafts. These postscripts tell the story behind the stories that millions of audiences have come to know and cherish.

This is by far one of L’Amour’s best written books, second only to the Sackett Brand. A must read!! I have no idea how many times I’ve listened to the Comstock Lode but it’s a go to when long road trips start.

This is long listen, but we'll worth it. Louis L'Amour writes some of the best westerns this is a long listen, took me a weekend to get through it. That's how long it took to read it also. My point, you start it you want to finish it. As always lots of information along the story line, history, knowledge and personality.

What can i say

I wish he were still around, cranking out even more amazing stories of the men and women who settled this land. Comstock is classic L'Amour telling the story of those who traveled West and settled Virginia city.

L'Amour doesn't disappoint!

Kept me on edge of my seat and sitting in my car parked in carport many a time for 15 mins or better just to hear a bit more

What did you love best about Comstock Lode?

The characters, the plot, the conflicts, the pacing.

What did you like best about this story?

The setting. I've travelled back and forth on the highway (present day) from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe, and I've been to Virginia City. Even so, I learned so much about those parts of California from the story, and about mining and the hard life.

What does Erik Singer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The dialects are quite good. I was totally immersed in this story.

If you could take any character from Comstock Lode out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Val, because he's so unpretentious and honest.

Any additional comments?

The only thing that bothered me was the pronunciation of "Placerville" and all the variations of "placer." The narrator pronounced "placer" to rhyme with "ace" as in "ace of spades," for example. "Placer" should be pronounced "plasser" and should rhyme with glass not face. Placerville was named after the gold panning technique used to mine surface gold -- hence placer gold.

A Wonderful Story!
