Inspirational, Literary and Practical All in One!

Most gardening books are very dry reading but right from the first paragraph of the introduction, ("Imagine your garden - greens of every hue stretch out, punctuated by blush red tomatoes...") this book is a pleasure and inspiration to read. It is full of metaphor ("Think of it as choosing who to sit next to in a busy cafe") and alliteration ("Worms wiggle... making tiny tunnels"). In addition to being a delight to read, this book is packed with practical information presented in an easy to understand format. It includes chapters on all the individual steps of preparing the soil, planning and planting your garden and harvesting. The many charts, lists and photographs aid initial understanding and make later reference easy. Each chapter has a "Key Takeaway" to sum up what was covered. This book is designed to make beginning gardeners successful but experienced gardeners will enjoy reading it too because it is so well written.

A Simple Approach to Companion Planting

Starting a garden can be frustrating when plants don’t thrive the way you expect. This book lays out companion planting in a way that makes sense, showing how certain plants support each other and keep pests away. The explanations are clear, and the charts make it easy to reference which plants grow well together.

It also includes tips for people with limited space, which is helpful if you're working with a small yard or even just a few containers. The advice is easy to follow, making gardening less intimidating and more enjoyable. A great resource for beginners looking to grow healthy vegetables.

Excellent for beginners

Great book for those just starting out on a gardening journey. Author makes the subject of companion planting easy and doable. I learned that there are several basic trio plants that work well together (basil/tomato/peppers for example), as well as manageable potted vegetables (there is a top 20 veggie list included) that any beginner can attempt to grow on their own, even in small spaces. Author states that one should start small with just a few favorites and go from there. There are also helpful bonus chapters for those who are a bit more adventurous. If you love garden fresh veggies (as I do) and have always wanted to learn how to grow your own garden, this book is a great place to start!
