About this listen

Madeleine Wickham, who writes the internationally bestselling Shopaholic series as Sophie Kinsella, has penned an irresistibly dishy and entertaining novel about three savvy young women and the secrets they share over monthly drinks.

Roxanne: glamorous, self-confident, with a secret lover--a married man

Maggie: capable and high-achieving, until she finds the one thing she can't cope with--motherhood

Candice: honest, decent, or so she believes--until a ghost from her past turns up

At the first of every month, when the office has reached its pinnacle of hysteria, Maggie, Roxanne, and Candice meet at London's swankiest bar for an evening of cocktails and gossip. Here, they chat about what's new at The Londoner, the glossy fashion magazine where they all work, and everything else that's going on in their lives. Or almost everything. Beneath the girl talk and the laughter, each of the three has a secret. And when a chance encounter at the cocktail bar sets in motion an extraordinary chain of events, each one will find their biggest secret revealed.

In Cocktails for Three, Madeleine Wickham combines her trademark humor with remarkable insight to create an edgy, romantic tale of secrets, strangers, and a splash of scandal.

Easy listen. but a bit of a predictable story

not as engaging as books written under sophie kinsella. i guessed the plot twist about a quarter into the book. the narrator was engaging overall, but i think she missed the mark with one of the characters, Roxanne to be precise

Fun Listen, Great Narrator

Cocktails for Three is a great story about 3 women working at the Londoner magazine who meet in a great bar each week to talk over their lives. In comparison to Sex and the City (which, really, sets the bar for all of these books), Roxanne's life is much like Samantha's and Maggie is Charlotte WITH a baby. The most compelling story, though, centers around Candice and an old acquaintance she runs into in the bar near the beginning of the book. All of the characters are well-developed, some more likable than others. The narration is tops - the reader has an authentic accent and gives this book a great voice!

Cute

Light and breezy. Quick read. Not life changing, but I enjoyed it. 3 words remaining.

Good, but not great

Would you consider the audio edition of Cocktails for Three to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

To be honest, I don't remember much about the end except that it was pretty predictable

Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favorite?

Maggie - she felt the most honest and natural.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nah. Katherine Kellgren is my favorite audio narrator, but this book is not Madeleine Wickham's best. That could be attributed to only having the abridged version available on Audible.com

Sophie Kinsella does not disappoint!!

I’ve read all of Sophie Kinsella’s books, and this one was just delightful!! It was unexpected and sweet, and had some great plot twists. It’s just a few days before Christmas, and I listened to the whole book in two days of running errands!! What a fun story about three wonderful friends, and all the drama in their lives. But their friendship is what stands out!! Loved it!!

Not bad at all :*)

The book started a bit slow, but it turned out to be better than I expected. However, it doesn't come close to the shopaholic series.

Good for a beach read

Book was easy to listen too. Started a little slow but in the end turned out to be good. However, not one of my favorites by this author. Don't let that discourage you, it's still good for a summer beach type book.

An enjoyable light listen

Cocktails for three was a cute lighthearted story. The plot became obvious to me fairly early on which made it hard for me to stay engaged but overall the book was cute.

Very enjoyable

Good story line - a little transparent from the beginning -- but good listening. Really liked the relationship of the 3 friends.

Easily Relatable

Enjoyed the easy light hearted fun and relatable material. Humor mixed with a bit of a reality shock makes this book a great read.
