Publisher's summary

A debonair billionaire struggling to improve his company. A voluptuous personal trainer with nothing left to lose. Can their passion save the people they love?

Handsome bear shifter Walter has the vision and drive to save his family's company, but not the power. After months of watching his older, playboy brother, Raymond, destroy the family business, a drunken bet finally gives Walter the opportunity to win it all back. Everything comes down to the shifter games: a contest of strength, speed, and cunning, where the winner takes all. One problem: Walter has never won before. Until he meets the strong woman of his dreams....

Katherine is an accomplished personal trainer who has lost her job due to Raymond's negligent business practices. When she flies into town to confront him, the last thing she expects is to become embroiled in a bitter feud between the brothers, where the outcome will determine the fate of everyone she loves.

While Katherine trains Walter for the competition, private coaching gives way to life-changing passion. Will Walter be strong enough to win the games...or will his brother's devious ways crush Walter's dreams?

Coaching the Bear is a short paranormal romance novella in the Bear Shifter Games series, a set of stand-alone stories that sizzle and satisfy. If you like steamy romance, muscle-bound shifters, and magical action, then you'll love AJ Tipton's breathtaking book.

A strong leading lady...

Raymond and Walter are brothers, as the eldest Raymond got control of the family company when their father passed.
Since then he's been making some dubious decisions. One of which is to close a resort where Catherine worked and she's not happy because she knows the resort wasn't loosing money no mater what Raymond says.
A bet is made and to save her friends jobs Walter needs to beat Raymond in a race so Catherine sets out to help him.

This book follows the developing relationship between Walter and Catherine as she trains him. Any we see lots of interesting scenes involving Raymond, talk about drama.

The narration is OK, not great to me, but I think that's just personal choice, there's nothing wrong with it, but I hear a different rhythm to what Audrey uses so it just sounds a little off to me. Not a fan of the character voices either, I find the voices can come across as a bit whiny at times.

Listen to the sample, if you like the narration get the audio and if you don't then get the eBook.

3 1/2 Stars - A Nice, Enjoyable Listen

I found this a fun and enjoyable read/listen. The story is a solid 3.5 or 4-stars and I even found myself laughing out loud in a few places. The author does a good job with the characters and pacing of the story. I liked the humor and interaction between the two MCs. But in honesty, I would have liked a little more tension between them. However, the interaction with Raymond, the MCs brother and our villian, helped to create drama.

I did struggle some with the narrator of this audiobook and would give it 2.5 to 3-stars. The narration was good enough that I still enjoyed the story but not enough that I would listen to it a second time. I had trouble with her male voices. I have listened to plenty of audiobooks with female narrators voicing male characters and know that it can be done very well. But in this case, I felt the pacing and tones of the male MCs were off. As though in trying to create a distinct male voices, the narrator slowed herself down. I also had some trouble distinguishing between them.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read/listen but not something I will repeat. I liked the author's story enough to pick up more of her books. I would even listen to another one, now that I know what to expect.

I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Wonderful short story

I really liked how the book started out right in the middle of the conflict. there was no wasting time with a super long imposing back story but how it was added in here and there so you still knew and understood why the characters did what they did. This book made me laugh at one spot that made me actually snort. The characters are well developed, much better than most short stories, and they are either likeable or hateable from the first meeting which is Wonderful!! if you like/love shifter books, this one is definitely one to read/listen to!!

Packs a punch for such a short story....

Although Coaching the Bear is a short novella, Tipton packs in a lot of plot in the small package. The shifter aspect is very minor, so all fans of romance would enjoy this book. Both the main characters, Katherine and Walter, are very strong and caring. Katherine doesn't do much growing in the book, but she definitely helps Walter grow in both ability and self-confidence. It is very touching to see him succeed over the villain of the story. Tipton paves the way for future books in the series, and I plan to listen to more.

Audrey Lusk does a good job with the narration. She adds the right level of emotion to the action scenes and the romantic moments. She does a better job with the female voices; her male voices are a little forced. Overall, this was an enjoyable audiobook.

Any additional comments?

This audiobook was given to me for a honest unbiased review. This book was fun and sexy. I love Shifter romances, and this one was good start for a series. This was a great short story. Just long enough to help you relax, and unwind. Hope for more with these characters. Will put this author on my automatic read list.
