About this listen

One people, divided by treachery and greed.

A fiery, ruthless warlord; a beautiful, ethereal princess.

They are drawn together by an intensely intimate connection, and when fire and ice meet, it's explosive.

Abducted, caged, and auctioned to a red-horned, alien devil whose black eyes foretell a very bleak future, Aurelia should be grateful to be alive. Though a rescue comes just seconds before the alien ship bursts into flames, she's sure death would have been more merciful when she discovers her hero is the powerful Warlord of Voltarre, sworn enemy of her people.

After boarding a slaver's barge to recover three women inexplicably stolen from his planet, Lord Darios is shocked to find the Princess of Aeldor also on board the ship. Though their planets have a turbulent history, Darios can't leave an innocent behind and risks his own life to save the frightened captive beauty from certain death.

With the crisis averted, the mystery remains - someone wants Aurelia dead. Though as different as fire and ice, Darios chooses to claim her to protect her: is it out of honor, or in light of the intimate connection neither of them can deny? Can these unlikely lovers mend the rift between their worlds, or will the evil conspiring against them, spawned of jealousy and greed, bring them to the brink of war yet again?

Predictable

The story line is predictable. The heroine was completely useless and needed the men around her to make “intelligent” decisions. I wasn’t into the spanking scenes or the heroine being treated like nothing more than a bed warmer. The hero actually tells her that her job is to welcome him home with open thighs. I love an Alpha hero but I didn’t have much use for this Alpha A-Hole “hero”. I hated the narration of this book. The men all sounded weird and the women all sounded like shrews.

I want to like this

I want to like this, the story seems interesting, but I cannot stand the Adam West sounding narrating the sex scenes.

Also, wth is up with the line about spanking across the galaxy as a way to encourage domestic compliance.

Returning.

Very Good - Just One Thing

Overall, I loved the story! I wish the female lead character was developed differently. She’s portrayed as rather juvenile, weak, and quite silly, but not in a humorous way. I was hoping for a stronger character, especially as she has powers and a high ranking. So, her character was a let down.
In general, it would have been nice if there was a narrator doing female voices. The male narrator did both male and female, and it was hard not to hear his male tone when portraying females, which was distracting.

Love the Warlord!

This was a very good book and I quickly became involved in the story. I thought that both main characters were likeable as well as some of the supporting characters. Darios found Aurelia in a cage surrounded by fire and smoke having been kidnapped to be sold as a sex slave to all manner of disgusting aliens. Darios took to her almost immediately. He was very controlling and dominant. It worked because he also had a softer side (sort of). Initially I did not care for Aurelia’s brother but, in the end, he was a good guy. His wife was a b!tch. Interesting facts are revealed why Aurelia's brother’s wife acted the way she did especially since she did not love the brother and really despised Aurelia. I enjoyed this book so much that I will look for other books by this author. Cliff Bergen was an OK narrator. I got used to his voice but feel the book would be even better with a better narrator who could show more emotion, do a better female voice and a less stilted male voice. I also really enjoy Maddie Taylor's writing style.

:)

I really enjoyed this creative story about prejudice, trust, hope, and love. The plot was interesting, the characters were great, and the chemistry between Dario's and Aurelia was steamy.

I listened to it at 2x speed.

An ARC copy of this audiobook was given to me in exchange for my review, but this did not affect my opinion.

Claimed by the Warlord

In this book, the author makes a great story of the Princess from one planet and the Warlord commander from another planet. Both are aware that their worlds have been at war for a very long time. Will the fates pull them apart ? Maddie Taylor writes a very good book where the reader will have trouble putting this book down. She has made up a credible universe, full of people just trying to make a living.

But for the narration!

The narrator was really bad! His inflection was terrible, as was the way he emphasized the words - the wrong words - of the story. I’d be happy to do the narration next time, lol.

Loved this story

I just loved this story. It is a well-written sci-fi with plenty of steam, intrigue, suspense, and smiles. The narrator does a great job of pulling the listener into the story.
