Earth’s entire fleet and all her legions are conscripted by the Galactics. Centurion McGill of Legion Varus is among countless troops pressed into service as cannon fodder for the Empire.

Not everyone on Earth is happy with the demands of the Galactics. Earth has built up her military for decades, and now she might lose everything in a foreign war no one understands. As the man who has killed more Mogwa than any other human in history, McGill is approached and given a mission. He has a fateful decision to make. Will he serve Earth’s overlords faithfully, or will he assassinate the arrogant alien leaders?

The most entertaining story to date.

Kept me involved from the start to finish. Larson weaves a fantastic story and Mark Boycott gives it life. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys science fiction.

The Usual Fun

Again we have received a fun, nonpolitical military space romp. Cheers to keeping the adventure alive.

James showed less depth than even his usual caricature portrays and the stakes seemed more flimsy than is typical in the series. Hopefully that's just a different note our author was experimenting with.

Yet another Classic!

I'm not ashamed to say I've listened to every single book in this series and more than 100 by this narrator.

The Life and Tales of James McGill aren't the stuff normal critics might care for, but I'm no professional critic.

It's a relatively simple formula expanded on and improved over 16 books that never ceases to keep me entertained. I love the call backs to things from past entries in this series, love hearing certain voice inflections and being able to have detailed memories of that character.

Another thing that stands out to me is the way characters evolve around McGill and while he evolves also, he never betrays the root of his story.

This is yet another example of all of the things people like myself love about this series, author and narrator. Action, comedy, suspense and more can be found in the chapters of this round and every entry in the series.

I can only hope we get another 16 books in this series.

finally, he is not just a idiot

i skipped book 16 because i was so disappointed with book 15. i was getting tired of him never grown as a person and it was just him trying to get laid with everyone. yes i know what your going to say he is a young man. but sex can not be the only thing he thinks about all the time.

More of the enjoyable same

This one felt like the author settled in hard on James McGill playing up his characteristics a bit harder than usual - calling out his own lies as he’s telling them, as an example. Which felt a little heavy handed. But it’s still good fun and I enjoy listening each time a new iteration comes out.

Back on track

Way better than that ice world nonsense. No real character development still but worth the monthly credit
