Acerca de esta escucha

There isn't a monster D'Angelo Kumar can't destroy or a crisis he can't manage, until he meets Angel Bai. The insane attraction he feels toward the sexy waiter is unwelcome, because D'Angelo doesn't have room in his life for relationships. A solitary path is the only option for a man like him, but fighting his growing feelings for Angel may be the first battle he can't win.

Angel's abilities extend beyond memorizing the menu at D'Angelo's favorite Italian restaurant, but he knows better than to trust anyone with his secret. When a vision reveals that D'Angelo's life is in danger, he will risk everything to save him. The only thing scarier than monsters and demons to Angel is never knowing D'Angelo's touch.

To say the demon hunter is reluctant to form a partnership with the psychic is putting it mildly, but D'Angelo needs every advantage he can get when the world's very existence is threatened. As darkness looms nearer, D'Angelo and Angel's unexplainable connection grows stronger. For a chance at happiness, the two men will need to call upon unlikely allies for an epic showdown between good and evil.

Contains mature themes.

I couldn't stop listening. It was epic. My favorite two authors and on top of it all my favorite narrator. What more can I wish for. I just hope we hear more from this trio. Thank you I enjoyed it tremendously.

Fantastic!

While both books 1 and 2 are full of magic and adventure, I felt book 1 was a bit more humorous and full of snark.

Book 1 also took the time to do the world building the entire series will rest upon so it does move a bit slower than the second book.

I can’t say I really liked D’Angelo much - he was mostly a pompous ass for the majority of the book – but he does come around and he grew on me a little.

I really didn’t like the name game that the authors played here – I think choosing more distinct names would have made more sense but… that’s just my own taste.

Joel does his usual awesome job of narrating this story which is chock full of characters with unique backgrounds! I totally loved the ‘tude he gave D’Angelo and really made his voice match his personality as written by the authors. Terrific job and definitely the best way to enjoy this story.

I love this series so much! Joel did a phenomenal job narrating. The characters were so lifelike and so easy to differentiate between! Cant wait for book 2!!

2 male warriors fight bad supernatural beings but because they are gay. Are kicked out of the ORDER that raised them & train them. They start their own business while each looking for soul mate. Diverse characters. Mostly Anglo but male Asian love interest & black (?) alpha male were wolf friend. Two lesbians human lovers. A witch & computer wiz. Voice actor did a great job. Paranormal struggle interesting. But M/M booty play scenes, not MY particular cup of tea.

LGBTQC paranormal STORY M/M fighting demons.

I always love it when everything mysterious is actually another world hiding in plain sight!

The first thing anyone should know before listening is that you have to be comfortable with Christianity if you want to enjoy it. All the Hunter lore is very heavily entrenched in it. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, I’m just personally not a fan. Though it is straight up weird for a guy to cry tears of joy after finding out his boyfriend has a tattoo infused with the blood of Christ. I’m pretty sure this was during pillow talk too, weird timing, weird reaction, just so weird.

Anyway, that wouldn’t warrant a two star rating. What does are the following things:
-D’Angelo is a massive jerk to Angel at first. He does a 180 later, but he’s super arrogant at the beginning. Like horribly so. He almost dies, but it’s so extreme that I think his arrogance would’ve realistically gotten him killed ages before the book could begin. And he’s so rude about it that it’s hard to want him and Angel together. Also, it’s really concerning that he can be so mean to Angel and think dirty thoughts about him at the same time. Big ick. Yes it gets better, but it’s just not fun to watch.
-Every character is extremely one dimensional, particularly the women. Everyone can be described with just a couple words, which isn’t really a good thing. Angel: emotionally wounded innocent virgin (which is such an author red flag) who also happens to see the future, D’Angelo: rude, arrogant, protective hunter, Christian: calm, deeply disturbed hunter that hates vampires, Vixen: witch lesbian, Jinx: computer lesbian, Meggy: sassy woman. That’s it. Now you know everything about each character. Literally that’s it. I’m not exaggerating they have nothing else to them. Tadaa.
-The overall plot is pretty uninspired. “Aaaaa there’s a demon!” Yep.
-The end battle is suuuuper uninspired, but I won’t say more bc I feel like I’ve already given too many details on other stuff.
-Did I mention D’Angelo wasn’t very likable?
-I think choosing Angel and D’Angelo as names could’ve been a little interesting, and they did acknowledge how similar they were. Specifically D’Angelo just renames Angel “Ansel.” They call it a nickname, but at that point I feel like he should’ve just been Ansel to begin with. It’s not really a good spinoff from Angel to begin with (yes I get D’Angelo picked “Ansel” because of the name’s meaning, but D’Angelo doesn’t seem like the type to know the meaning of names offhand. At least, it’s never indicated at any other point).
-Sometimes we’re told things that don’t really make sense based on stuff we’ve been shown. At one point, D’Angelo is like “Lorcán seems like deep down he really might be an okay guy,” but we’ve been given literally zero indication of this thus far. Yeah book two is about him so it’s probably true, and he does choose to help in the end, but other than that he’s just a big jerk. Still not as big a jerk as D’Angelo though.
-And finally, it’s never a good thing when spicy scenes make me laugh when they’re not supposed to. “Virgin passage”? Really? *Really*?

As for the narration, I’m never a fan of Joel Leslie and I pretty much only listen to his stuff when it’s free. This wasn’t his best, but it wasn’t as insufferable as some of his other narrations have been. Definitely middle of the road, so three stars.

I like Walker's stories and characters. This book does not seem like it was written by her but by either a high schooler or a grandparent? The writing is pretty bad. The steamy scenes were cheesy at times - I got tired of rolling my eyes. The characters were shallow, even with their back stories. The description of a very expensive suit made the vampire look "too cool for school". The narration made it worse. I keep forgetting I don't like this narrator's voice as he sounds like a grandfather with a tremulous, nasally voice. DNF sad to say because I liked the underlying storyline.

I wanted to like this but DNF

Tldr: the narration is crap, but I'm enjoying the book. Pick up the physical copy.
I picked this up because it seemed like a fun read and aligned well with my typical interests. Three chapters in, and I can confirm all of that of true, the book is actually fantastic so far. The writing, characterization, set up... all fine.. Except: the narration is atrocious. The sample does a so so job portraying that, but I just thought it was a character bit that was sampled and it wouldn't be the whole book. Nope.

It's the whole thing.

The stained, off, overdone tone for both protagonists is painful. When reading for Deangelo, his voice is muddy and belabored to sound macho and aloof. Worst is that every curse word or phrase is handled so poorly, it sounds labored and butchered and out of place; every time you do hear one, it seems the narrator doesn't like swearing personally and doesn't know how to handle the swearing at all, thus the VERY obvious and popped-out-of-the-sentence they are. Angel is consistently narrated as this frightened, on edge, breathy, stained garbled mess.

It's untenable. I don't understand the intentions for these narration choices and completely derailed my listening experience.

I'm probably returning this to simply read a physical copy of it instead. I don't know how any of these other listeners could stomach the audio.

Not completed, but....
