About this listen
This is a mini-sequel to The Other Son, a little gift for all those listeners who have been begging to know what happens next. Alice has been lying to herself for years, holding fast to the belief that the needs of her family far outweigh her own. But her outwardly successful marriage hides dark secrets, and for much of her life, the children were the only reason she stuck around.
These days, though her successful banker son lives nearby, his young wife seems to do everything she can to keep Alice at bay. As for Alice's other son, he has always been something of a stranger and has been traveling for so long that Alice isn't even sure what continent he is on anymore. Alice can’t help but wonder if the effort she expends presenting a united front to the outside world is actually helping anyone and what would happen if she suddenly stopped pretending.
Could life, like the novels she devours, hold surprises in its closing chapters? And if she did shake everything up by admitting the truth about her marriage, would anyone be on her side? Has the time finally come for Alice to put her own needs first? For the first time in years, her heart is racing. Can Alice really change her life? Dare she even imagine such a thing?

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Not my cup of tea, yet good.
This story was not my cup of tea but, the author did a fine job of writing the story and an excellent job of sucking one into the lives of the chsracters. There could have been more work done on the periphery characters but, in all fairness I only heard the first three chapters. in fact, the only negative thing I can say about this short is that the changing of scenes was to abrupt. I had to stop the audio book, rewind, and relisten because I thought I had missed something. After reviewing the wording in the context of the scene, I can see where these would make sense in print because there would be a marker denoting the change from one scene to the other; however, there is no such thin in audio books. My only advice: Your dialog is excellent and it drives your story (something I hope to acomplish one day). So, find a way to paint your story so as we audio listeners can imagine the scene changes. Good luck to you, you are a good writer and I have no doubt after hearing your dialog that you will be a great one soon. Best wishes and prayers.

A lovely heartfelt story
I didn't realize that this was a sequel before starting it, none-the-less I really enjoyed it.
Even though it's quite short, it is wonderfully executed. You can't help but love all of the characters. I found their multigenerational stories and experiences endearing and heartbreaking.
Imogen Church was a brilliant narrator. She was perfectly cast. Will definitely seek out more items narrated by her.

It could've been a chapter
Its a reunion between two old friends and them catching up, the author somehow made a whole short book of what could have been a short chapter.
I feel like we could have read that in less than 15 minutes and not an hour.
I listened to the complete thing since it was only an hour long but honestly it was very boring and repetitive just them talking about the past and catching up.
Also it does feel like you are missing somethin, I didn't know this is a sequel to a previous book until I read the comments here, you don't absolutely need to read the first one to understand this one but there is a feeling of uncompletion
