About this listen

“Chasing dreams, escaping corporate hell, and finding yourself—sometimes all it takes is one leap into the unknown.”

Chase never imagined his monotonous nine-to-five life would be shattered by a car crash—or that it would catapult him into a vibrant, otherworldly galaxy. Now stranded in Ether, a magical planet ruled by the powerful and graceful Phoenix, Chase discovers a universe on the brink of war. With Ether’s survival hanging by a thread, Chase must team up with Phoenix and the hilariously brash hellhound-human Jax to confront tyrannical rulers, compete in his biggest confrontation yet, and uncover the dark truth about a shadowy enemy.

Caught between his Earthly regrets and Ether’s uncertain future, Chase faces his biggest challenge yet: embracing the courage to fight not only for this world but for the love and purpose he’s been chasing all along.

Fast-paced, heartfelt, and brimming with action, Chasing Phoenix Forever is a tale of escaping the rat race, intergalactic adventure, and second chances.

Overall the story is decent. A story about a man who is tired of his life, and then suddenly, a car crash transports him to another world. However, the lack of seriousness in editing ruins it.

As a general rule, I try to avoid a DNF if at all possible. This was a tough one to keep plowing through. The overall story re-uses an all-too-common plot, and the two male characters' attempts at egging each other on with overtly sexual comments about the main female character were cringe. All too often we are told something, only to be told again in another way immediately after. The experience felt like listening to an episode of Scooby Doo on a Saturday morning, except all the characters were horny clones of Shaggy and Scooby except the one Daphne that was the object of their sexual desire. Despite numerous opportunities for these people (and talking animal) to grow, mature, or develop throughout the storyline, they are too wrapped up in the immediate perceived threat to do so. *sigh* I've run out of things to say. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 2.25x.]

An attempt at punny, sophomoric humor that trips
