Publisher's summary

Chasing Lilly is a captivating true story of a little girl who refused love and attachment, because severe abuse robbed her ability to receive them. The story sparkles with humor, as Lilly meets her match in a family who refused to give up on her.

What others say about Chasing Lilly:

Bryan Sawyer, LIVE! with Kelly Top Teacher Award recipient: "Chasing Lilly is an eye-opening look into the world of mental illness from the prospective of a parent. Her harrowing tales make it easy to forget that Lilly is a real girl. As an educator, I would recommend this book to anyone who works with individuals with emotional disturbances."

Foster W. Cline, MD, is an internationally renowned child and adult psychiatrist, as well as co-author of Parenting with Love and Logic. He has served as a consultant to school systems, pupil personnel teams, and hospitals around the world: "Just quality writing in general: descriptive, interesting, enticing, and leads me to smile in an understanding way. I have read your fascinating book, Chasing Lilly. I found it to be so enlightening, and hope it becomes a classic reference work for prospective foster and adoptive parents."

William Steele, PsyD, MSW, Founder, The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children: Chasing Lilly is "a remarkable, richly detailed journey into what matters most in the lives of severely traumatized children... This should be required reading for anyone caring for or treating traumatized children... What a wonderful story. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to endorse such a meaningful and insightful work..."

Leslie Brower, PhD, RN Project Director, SAMHSA Grant on Trauma-Informed Care, Delaware Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health: "Chasing Lilly is a scary, inspiring ride through the early years of a bright, charming little girl who was badly traumatized by parental neglect and violence. You will be captivated by Lilly herself...her profound psychic injuries would have discouraged any 'normal' parent …"

Gregory C Keck, PhD, Founder and Director of the Attachment & Bonding Center of Ohio: "This moving book provides the reader with an inside glimpse...a journey of hope, pain, and commitment.... This should be a 'must-read' for anyone thinking about sharing their lives with a child whose life has been touched by trauma and loss."

Absolutely loved this!!!

Meg's voice is so soothing and her acting is awesome. I truly loved listening to this one. it is a reminder of how much love is still needed in this world and that good people still exists.

This is a story of a little girl with a heartbreaking background. I didn't know about this condition so it was fascinating to learn more. As sad as her situation was, the author was able to write it with humor and charm. And I just love the voice of the little girl. The reader did a fantastic job portraying the little girl.

I am in awe of Nealie and her love for the little girl. Thank you for sharing your story. It has inspired me to be more patient with my own kids.

Informative and Educational

Chasing Lily is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read or heard when it comes to dealing with children with mental illness. The author uses very descriptive but easy to understand terms so you are never lost in the story of the struggle her and her family had when raising a foster child that no one else could have handle with such love and compassion. Nealie Rose should win an award because she almost single handedly was able to bring some sort of stabilization into Lily's chaotic world. They were a blessing to Lilly and Lilly to them. I highly recommend this true account book to anyone seeking to adopt or becoming a foster parent there is a lot of educational information within these pages. I received this book from Audiobooks Unleashed and this is my honest unbiased review.

MUST Read

I do not have first-hand experience with foster care, but several friends do, and this should be mandatory reading. The way the author tells their life story is mesmerizing, totally drawing you in. The reader's voice can make or break the best of books, and this reader is easy to listen to. You feel the pain and sadness of bad circumstances, the joy in victories, no matter how small, and you also laugh when it would seem inappropriate, but the author shows humor in the most trying times. This is an author to follow.

Beautiful story with fantastic narration

This story of courage and resilience kept me captivated throughout, as it told first-hand one family's story of raising a foster-child suffering from Reactive Attachment Disorder. Love shone through on every page in the face of tremendous difficulties and hardship. The story strengthened my resolve to hopefully foster a child myself some day, although I'll admit it did make me a little nervous too, even though I realize that most foster-children do not suffer from RAD. Meg Dorsett's narration is what truly made this book stand-out for me. I felt like I was in the middle of the drama, rather than just watching on the sidelines. Meg clearly imagined and acted out each character with unique voices befitting each circumstance, and truly breathed each character's emotions in every situation into the story. Fantastic performance!
