Acerca de esta escucha

The explosive new thriller from New York Times best-selling author and master of the medical thriller Robin Cook.

Newly minted chief resident at Boston Memorial Hospital Noah Rothauser is swamped in his new position, from managing the surgical schedules to dealing with the fallouts from patient deaths. Known for its medical advances, the famed teaching hospital has fitted several ORs as "hybrid operating rooms of the future" - an improvement that seems positive until an anesthesia error during a routine procedure results in the death of an otherwise healthy man. Noah suspects Dr. William Mason, an egotistical world-class surgeon, of an error during the operation and of tampering with the patient's record afterward. But Mason is quick to blame anesthesiologist, Dr. Ava London.

When more anesthesia-related deaths start to occur, Noah is forced to question all of the residents on his staff, including Ava, and he quickly realizes there's more to her than what he sees. A social-media junkie, Ava has created multiple alternate personas for herself on the Internet. With his own job and credibility now in jeopardy, Noah must decide which doctor is at fault and who he can believe - before any more lives are lost.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Tantalizing.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Where Cook shines is in illuminating that combination of impersonal professionalism and potential terror haunting every hospital corridor. A return to form for the master of medical malevolence.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“Cook has been cranking out best-selling medical thrillers since the mid-1970s, and he long ago worked out a formula that works for his fans. [Charlatans] is no exception, proving once again that there is comfort and entertainment to be found in the familiar.” (Booklist)

Once I got used to the reader it was ok but in all honesty I did find his reading a little slurred .

Great Book

Robin Cook write novels that provide entertainment but are also denunciations of problems in the medical profession. His characters are not well rounded humans but symbols of good, evil, incomoetence, jealousy, like in a morality play.

One thing I did enjoy was the detail in rendering medical procedures.

Another enjoyable aspect was the suspense. It is well bult and keeps your interest.

But that was probably the last Cook novel I will, download.

Entertaining but preachy

This book was so slow moving that any developments seemed to happen imperceptibly, with the result that you were almost not consciously aware that anything had happened at all. Usually I have no patience with more than 30 seconds of irrelevant, meandering prose; however, what kept me engaged was Cook's better than usual character development of a relatable cast and a likable main character. Most of the book felt like 'a day in the life of' the main character. It had enough interesting information about medical procedures and discussions about the development of social media that wasn't ground breaking, but did keep me feeling happy to tag along.

The narrator is irritating. The majority of his sentences throughout the book end with an upward lilt with the result that he sounds constantly outraged and/or defensive. Most of it was read in a hurry as if he had time limits to beat, and his sentences would end in a rush as if he was worried he wouldn't make it. At the beginning I listened on 0.75 speed which helped a little.

The plot was a little garbled and repetitive. But overall, it was entertaining enough to listen to while driving and cooking.

Entertaining but slow moving

This was quite the interesting storyline and not having any medical background or formal knowledge I can’t speak to the probability of this happening, though I’m sure it could. I enjoyed it and there were definitely plot twists toward the end, but I felt like the ending needed more details. I wouldn’t mind a sequel.

Cook doesn’t disappoint as usual

Plot is good, an engaging mystery. Narrator not to my liking, too rapid, too staccato.

Mixed Feelings

I enjoyed this book very much. The ending made me very thoughtful of the medical society. Would recommend this book to friends.

This book was entertaining and interesting, but gets my best review on being informative! It has been delightful to be educated in the field of medicine and anesthesia. Kudos to the author and all of the research needed to make this book a great success in my eyes.

Review on the book charlatans I Robin Cook

Se ha producido un error. Vuelve a intentarlo dentro de unos minutos.

I listened to this book and heard at least three bad proof reading errors and probably missed some by being distracted elsewhere. For me when reading a news source, once I see one such error I quit and find something else. It distracts me when I do not feel it was professional. Story line ok but very slow to develop and way too many unimportant details. Not my style.

Proofreaders are with it!
