About this listen
If anyone can tell the difference between monsters and humans, it's Dahlia Nite. For nearly a century, she's hunted one to protect the other. Safeguarding humanity from the creatures that slip through the torn veil between the worlds. Creatures like her.
But the lines are blurring. As people begin mutating and combusting on the streets, Dahlia realizes a strange affliction has descended upon Sentinel City. The mysterious ailment strikes all walks of life, from the posh high-end nightclub district to the homeless community. Its victims, driven to random acts of savagery, are drawing attention too fast to cover up.
Assigned to the case, Dahlia and her human partner Detective Alex Creed investigate the deaths. But all they have are questions, bodies, and a public on the verge of panic. Working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick Casey Evans, Dahlia struggles to discover what, or who, is behind the alarming transformations.
As the violence spreads and the mystery unfolds, she wonders: Are the victims still human? Were they ever?
Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire series.

Story
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Recommended series!
This is Book 2 in the Nite Fire Series, and picks up right after the first book. I would consider this series as urban fantasy; it is action packed and has some tense drama.
I listened to the audio book and there were moments in the beginning where I had to play some chapters again as my mind kept wondering. I stuck it out and glad that I did, King did an excellent job with her narration.
Schneider does a great job of maintaining the flow and characters throughout the novels. Schneider writes with a balance of characters emotion and action, as well as great world building and developing plot.

Finally, A Sequel As Good As The First Book!
In Chain Reaction, we’re taken even deeper into the world of the supernatural, and the singular mystery from before blooms into something even more intriguing. Tensions are high after the events of the Flash Point, loyalties are tested, plots are uncovered, the question of romance is in the air, and, best of all, Dahlia Nite is on the case with her trusty and hilarious sidekick. I’ve read many sequels that are never as good as the first book, either the characters begin to fall flat or the plot does - this one was not one of them. This was one of those books you just can’t put down. Well-written, full of winding twists and turns you’ll never see coming, and lots and lots of wit, if you liked Flash Point you’ll love Chain Reaction!

Exciting
Chain Reaction by C.L. Schneider is the second installment of Nite Fire series. Although I didn't enjoy it as much as the first it was still a riveting story. There was a lot going on in this book that made it hard to follow at times but once all the dots connected it was an "ahhh" moment. I enjoyed that Dalia can now settle down and has people that she connects to. It made her more personable and cheering for her to solve the mystery. the end of the book left the series open and I am excited to listen to the next installment.

Dragon Magic
This series just gets better and better. I liked the first book, but I think the second book is even better. Dahlia Nite is spending her time trying to figure out what is causing the strange affliction that is attacking the people of her city, while still trying to provide reasonable and human answers to the cop that she has as a partner. As things heat up in her city, Dahlia's job becomes harder. I was very entertained by the convoluted path and growth that is happening in Dahlia's life in this second book of the series. I recommend this book to others who like this genre. Cassandra King's narration continues to be great. Her expressive voice and various character voices provide an extra layer of entertainment to this exciting tale. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Loved it!
Wow! When I first started Chain Reaction, I had no idea it could get even better than before. Little did I know, it could. It was amazing!
C.L. Schneider has done such an amazing job writing this series so far. The characters are amazing! I seriously love Creed and Dahlia. I love Evan too, but those two are kick ass awesome! All of the characters are developed amazingly. It’s hard to believe even the creatures have so much detail.
To make this audiobook even better, Cassandra King does such a great job portraying these characters in her narration. Each scene is exquisitely detailed. Every time I read one of Schneider’s book, or listen to one, I feel as if I’m in the action. I love it! I can easily tell which character is which. I can feel all of the emotion behind the scenes. It’s all tangible. I can’t imagine this book being much better than it already is.
The overall production is just great. The whole book flows smoothly. The characters are amazing. The action is well portrayed and there is never a dull moment. I am enraptured in this series. Each creature and character just add to the whole story is a new and fun way. I seriously cannot wait to read the next book. Each story just gets better and better. Schneider has such a knack for writing a book that will leave the reader begging for more.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by C.L. Schneider. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Loved It`
This was my first audio book and It was amazing. I was able to truly imagine everything and the narrators voice was amazing. Dahlia and Alex were great! The journey they were on was so clearly defined. Dahlia is a half dragon and a heroine at her finest. She is strong, intelligent, and determine. She is a fighter who has no intention of backing down. Together her and Alex are finding their common ground and working together to solve these unthinkable crimes. Bodies are mutating and dead bodies are dropping everywhere. Unheard of and unknown we watch these 2 navigate the dark magical realm and get the unexpected answers.

Such a good audio!
I read this book when it first came out and I loved it. So when I saw it was on audio I jumped at the chance to listen to it because I liked it alot and the audio is a different experience all together. I loved this world the author and narrator created for us because I didn't wanna leave. The character brought me in and I couldn't get enough. Action and Suspense kept me on the edge of my seat and it was awesome!
I cannot wait to listen to more by this author and this narrator & I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

YESS...YESSS...YESSSS
I have been a long time fan of C.L. Schneider-falling in love with the author's style with the Crown of Stones Series. When I read that she was putting out present day, urban fantasy I knew that it would become an automatic buy. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. While I consumed each book in the series (I have had the pleasure of read all three..so far..I hope) this was the first I actually also listened to on audio. Cassandra King embodies Dahlia Nite (the main character). C.L. Schneider's prose and the narrator's expression is seamless. Ms. King was able to assign significant tones and speech pattern differences to the vast array of characters within the book. I listen to my audiobooks on my exercise walks and I found myself going longer and harder as I was caught up in the action and developing story line. The banter between Nite and Evans comes to life and I found myself smiling and laughing out loud all over again as I heard the many by-plays between the characters. The monsters take on such vibrance in this book it was easy to get lost in the world of Sentinel City. I just went back and bought the first audiobook in this series so I can hear Cassandra King again and can't wait to hear the third book too... C.L. and Cassandra if you read this...PLEASE make it quick.
