Not Recommended for Practicing Catholics

This audiobook presents a high-level overview of early Catholic Church history and touches on some basic tenets of the faith. However, if you're a practicing Catholic or have even a modest grounding in Church history, you're unlikely to find new insight here. In fact, several small but important errors throughout the text raise red flags.

Examples include: the feeding of the 5,000 described with "7 loaves and 2 fish" (instead of 5 loaves and 2 fish), the crowd asking for "Barnabas" instead of Barabbas, and a particularly odd statement suggesting that David – or possibly Herod – was the first king of Israel (ignoring Saul entirely). These aren’t minor typos – they reflect a lack of familiarity with the subject matter.

While it's possible some of the issues stem from narration errors, it seems more likely the source material is at fault. That’s especially plausible given the vague authorship – credited only to “Newbury Publishing.”

The nine events covered don’t really form a structured survey of Church history – they feel more like a rough sketch of selectively chosen moments. The book seems targeted at absolute beginners, and even then, listeners should approach with caution due to the factual inaccuracies.

It gives the strong impression of being compiled by someone who isn't Catholic, may not fully grasp core Christian beliefs, and likely leaned heavily on AI-generated content without proper review.

In short: not recommended unless you're brand new to the topic – and even then, better introductions are out there.
