Acerca de esta escucha

A controversial examination of the internal Israeli debate over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a best-selling Israeli author.

Since the Six-Day War, Israelis have been entrenched in a national debate over whether to keep the land they conquered or to return some, if not all, of the territories to Palestinians. In a balanced and insightful analysis, Micah Goodman deftly sheds light on the ideas that have shaped Israelis' thinking on both sides of the debate and among secular and religious Jews about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Contrary to opinions that dominate the discussion, he discovers that the paradox of Israeli political discourse is that both sides are right in what they affirm - and wrong in what they deny. Although he concludes that the conflict cannot be solved, Goodman is far from a pessimist and explores how instead it can be reduced in scope and danger through limited, practical steps. Through philosophical critique and political analysis, Goodman builds a creative, compelling case for pragmatism in a dispute where a comprehensive solution seems impossible.

Listening to this book post-Oct 7 2023. Although Goodman barely talks about Gaza, the analysis is still relevant, maybe more relevant than ever. He is such a clear thinker. Should be required reading for all politicians and diplomats.

Clear thinking; fair-minded analysis

If you are interested in why Israelies and Palestinains can not make peace this is the book for you. It is not a polemic nor is it an advocacy for either sides views, truths or propoganda. It is a highly intelligent book going over all the obstacles and in the end he makes a number of well thought through ideas how to improve relationshipx in which each side gets something.I thought I was knowledgable on the subject but I learned quite a bit new information. It is a book for intillectual provocation and new thought. I highly recommend this book for people who are willing to have their prejudices on this subject challenged. It is no t long nor difficult. I had a hard time putting it down.

Very good book!

I have studied Israeli history for decades. The first half of the book explains things very nicely and in good perspective. Unfortunately the second half drones on and on in the author’s dream world view of how the left and right should think to have a temporary peace. His views are totally nonsensical. I was so bored with the second half of the book while the first half stated facts the second half was his own personal nonsense.

Mixed feelings

This was an easy listen, some of the points are being repeated too many times for such a short book. I was hoping for a more religious position and interpretations of the different aspects of the catch. Nevertheless, a fun, educating though somewhat naive and a little bit optimistic read.

Interesting, short, requires prior knowledge

Great book will recommend to friends family and coworkers, I found the author to be both knowledgeable and neutral

Listening to this book will help one better filter and understand the shouting matches within Israel, as well as some possible ways forward.

Would appreciate an updated book that addresses the judicial protests and how Oct 7, 2023 has impacted Israeli society.

Better Understand Left & Right

Why would they choose a narrator who clearly does not know hebrew? Bizarre narration that really threw me off. However, the actual content was great. Maybe better off just reading this until the re-record it.

Great content, poor and off putting narration

I like the performances and overall perspective of the author about the conflict. Of course the book need an update after the October 7th events.
