About this listen

The title of this audiobook, Can I See Your Hands, refers to one of the key outcomes of this audiobook - being able to tell whether or not people want to cause us harm. To put it very simply, if you can see someone's hands and they are not concealing them, holding a weapon or positioning to strike you, one's levels of trust and confidence can increase. This simple example can serve as a reminder to all of us in many of the complex moments we have to deal with, and difficult decisions we have to make, in everyday life.

Surprisingly good

I found this very interesting and consumable. I can switch off if a book isn't resonating with me and I was captivated through the entire book. I made a note to revisit this again in six months. While some of it may seem obvious.... when it is presented with anecdotal evidence I found it really enjoyable and relatable.

Not what I thought it would be

The information was basic, there was a point i almost stopped the book when the author began blaming violence on Video Games & Movies. I had access to both and turned out fine (Without a Criminal Record)

Enjoyed the book and the information strsight to the point. By the end of the book, I became more aware to the things in my life that were a vulnerability, and how to make myself a harder target. Well done book.

Wanted to like it more...

I discovered the author while he was interviewed in a podcast. Seemed legit and he actually captured my attention. Decided to purchase his book since he was referencing material from it. I've read Grossman's books and have met him in person so I figured I'd give Schneider a shot. I wanted to like it. Yes, many references to Gavin de Becker and yes, a lot of the material seemed to be repeated in the book (which can sometimes be helpful if someone is trying to retain the knowledge) but the part that I couldn't get past was the narrator's voice and presentation. I did purchase the book without being an Audible subscriber so there was nothing I could do in regards to returning it and that's on me. Now I'm familiar with previewing a potential purchase and getting the hang of being an Audible subscriber. So, overall, good book, good useful material, but hands down for me on the narration.
