About this listen

Kagur is a warrior of the Blacklions, fierce and fearless hunters in the savage Realm of the Mammoth Lords. When her clan is slaughtered by a frost giant she considered her adopted brother, honor demands that she, the last surviving Blacklion, track down her old ally and take the tribe's revenge. Yet this is no normal betrayal, for the murderous giant has followed the whispers of a dark god down into the depths of the earth, into a primeval cavern forgotten by time. There he will unleash forces capable of wiping all humans from the region - unless Kagur can stop him first! From acclaimed author Richard Lee Byers comes a tale of bloody revenge and subterranean wonder, set in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

the narrator lost my interest

while the story is good, the narrator's voice lacked motivation and was more robotic then fun and immersive. I would return the audio book and buy the physical copy instead.

A fun lead.

The main character is easy to like if a bit on the highly violent side. The story is well read and gives that heroine good personality. The plot is solid taking us through three biomes and gives distinct respect to their threats. It also manages to avoid many, but not all, of the tropes that would've been easy for a lazier version of this story to fall into.

Good story, terrible performance

I have listened to many of the Pathfinder audio books. Some are good, some are great. This one was painful. The story was good but the narrator ruined it. She speaks with a halting, grunts way that makes me wonder if the total length could have been shortened by at least an hour. It's hard to explain....other than to....type (grunting) the...way...the story came out. My oldest thought it was being narrated by AI and my youngest said she was reading it like she was trying to keep a poop in.

The story was good and gave a nice glimpse of the Darklands and gave me some idea as a GM. Will read the authors works in the future. Will avoid any other story with the same narrator.

let down

Richard Lee Byers is the author of my favorite D&D type trilogy I've ever read in the Haunted Lands books. man was I disappointed in this story. I found myself looking fir excuses to turn it off. the story just droned on and on. huge fan of Richard Lee Byers, but this is not his best work.
