Acerca de esta escucha

Narrated by Peter Berkrot, an award-winning narrator, but perhaps best known for his feature role as caddy Angie D'Annunzio in Caddyshack.

"This is a tough, sharp history of comedy and competitiveness, of rising stars and brilliant upstarts. Of difficult egos, awful behavior, fragile friendships, bursts of inspiration, and blizzards of cocaine - told by the survivors and shaped by Chris Nashawaty's welcome insight and perspective." (Mark Harris, New York Times best-selling author of Pictures at a Revolution and Five Came Back)

Caddyshack is one of the most beloved comedies of all time, a classic snobs vs. slobs story of working-class kids and the white-collar buffoons that make them haul their golf bags in the hot summer sun. It has sex, drugs, and one very memorable candy bar, but the movie we all know and love didn't start out that way, and everyone who made it certainly didn't have the word classic in mind as the cameras were rolling.

In Caddyshack: The Making of a Hollywood Cinderella Story, film critic for Entertainment Weekly Chris Nashawaty goes behind the scenes of the iconic film, chronicling the rise of comedy's greatest deranged minds as they form The National Lampoon, turn the entertainment industry on its head, and ultimately blow up both a golf course and popular culture as we know it. Caddyshack is at once an eye-opening narrative about one of the most interesting, surreal, and dramatic film productions there's ever been and a rich portrait of the biggest and most revolutionary names in Hollywood. So, it's got that going for it...which is nice.

The problem I have with Saturday Night Live is the skits go on too long. Something that would be really funny for 2 minutes is dragged out over 5 and it wears. This book is that. Similar to the movie "Stripes" and "Caddy Shack" itself, this could have been much shorter and much more enjoyable.

Like a SNL skit

I absolutely loved listening to this book. Chris Nashawaty has done an amazingy job of capturing the lifestyle of everyone involved in the making of Caddy Shack. I also think that Peter Berkrot was an excellent choice to narrate, he read the book so well and hit every joke perfectly. After watching A Futile and Stupid Gesture, this book gave me more knowledge that I was yearning for. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves Lampoon movies and early the Saturday Night Live episodes.

A very good listen.

The first thing to know about this book, is that fully half the book really isn't about Caddyshack. The first half of the book is on Harvard Lampoon, National Lampoon, Saturday Night Live, and the movie "Animal House". They do this because some of the people associated with Caddyshack were doing those other things prior to Caddyshack, and some of that is interesting, but I think they went way over-the-top self-indulgent by adding it to a book that is allegedly about Caddyshack. I could have done with about 75% less of that other stuff.

The second half of the book is quite good. There's a lot of good behind-the-scenes stuff about Caddyshack, which I enjoyed. But when you consider that onlly half the book is about Caddyshack, it does feel a little thin relative to other books about the making of movies.

I can't say I like the reader. He has one of these deep, raspy voices, like a guy reading side effects of prescription drugs or reading sleaze about a political candidate or something. Not a guy you'd want reading an actual book imo.

Only About Half The Book Is On Caddyshack

Iv read many books about all these characters and this one is one of the best.

Great detail

Pretty obvious that – while this does an extensive, comprehensive and entertaining overview of the stars and costars of the film, and gives you a well – rounded account of what happened on the course - this in reality was a true love letter to Doug Kenney. And accomplished both goals very well.

Tribute to the movie… And to Doug.

A History of Caddyshack and The Natl Lampoon

This might appear to be a humorous book but it is in fact quite serious ... and quite good.

Narration is excellent.

I rally enjoyed this audible book and the work of the Narrator, Peter Berkot. A lot of inside info with the beginnings of National Lampoon, and the back stories of the Magazine, Animal House and Caddyshack. If you are a fan of the movie, you will enjoy this book.

A great Insider View of a Comic Classic

I think I’ve watched the movie a couple hundred times, every time we go to a golf rendezvous we watch it, the book is fantastic I grew up in Miami in the 80s, so the book was perfect. I love all those guys and gals and it was nice to hear the whole story.

I love the movie I love the book

It was an interesting book about the making of Caddyshack, but if you are only interested in the movie and it's actors the lead up may be a little much. It's probably half way through before it gets to the actual filming of Caddyshack. The majority of the time before that is spent discussing Doug Kenney, the main writer of the movie. That was interesting, but I was more interested in the actors I've seen hundreds of times in the movie and tidbits on what went on with them when the cameras weren't rolling.

Interesting
