About this listen

A Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post, and Amazon Charts best seller

From number one New York Times best-selling phenomenon Sylvia Day comes a hotly anticipated and passionate new love story.

Once, I would never have imagined myself here. But I’m settled now. In a place I love, in a home I renovated, spending time with new friends I adore, and working a job that fulfills me. I am reconciling the past and laying the groundwork for the future.

Then Garrett Frost moves in next door.

He’s obstinate and too bold, a raging force of nature that disrupts the careful order of my life. I recognize the ghosts that haunt him, the torment driving him. Garrett would be risky in any form, but wounded, he’s far more dangerous. I fear I’m too fragile for the storm raging inside him, too delicate to withstand the pain that buffets him. But he’s too determined…and too tempting.

And sometimes hope soars above even the iciest desolation.

Emotional and heartrending, Butterfly in Frost marks a brilliant return by global sensation Sylvia Day, the number-one international multimillion best-selling author of the Crossfire saga.

Confusing

First, I've never listened to any of this author's work before so had nothing to go on as far as the style of her writing or familiarity of other characters mentioned. I fast forwarded a lot of the story because it was boring listening to all of the unnecessary descriptions of clothing, graphic sexual scenes and physical attributes of the characters. Ok so he's hot, get on with it. Geez. And by the end when the whole "twist" comes in, I was just confused. There's nothing that ties all of it together. One minute they don't know each other at all, the next they're getting down and dirty then bam- they had a past? And did she remember or did she have ptsd amnesia or something?! It just didn't flow, make any sense. Usually there are references to the past that make sense, ties things together but this was not like that. There wasn't any depth to her past because apparently she didn't want to ever talk about it. Left the listener just wondering. When the conclusion comes, I just thought, wth? Where did that come from? I don't know if I would try any of her other works or not at this point. All of the graphic sex descriptions in these stories are really getting old and boring. These writers need to come up with better storylines instead of all the sex fillers.

Butterfly In Frost

Emotional and wow, what a twist. Teagan comes back from a trip to find she has a new neighbor, Garrett, and while out walking the dogs with Roxie, her other neighbor, she is literally taken off her feet by him. Watching these two come to grips with what is between them and what they are both working through is beautiful. The twist towards the end was completely unexpected but worked and brought the story full circle.

Kudos Sylvia

This story was not what I expected. It’s raw, passionate and the ending was not only a curve ball it was overwhelmingly sad.
Emma and Joe did an excellent job narrating.

Hard to Follow

Throughout most of this book I felt like I was missing something. The connection between Teagan and Garrett didn't feel natural and I couldn't figure out why...until the last two chapters. There's a twist that I definitely didn't see coming and it cleared up my confusion.

Loved it!

I had no clue what was going on until the last chapter. That is unusual as with most books I have it figured out before then. Good writing

Rushed

I didn't fall in love with any of the characters. There were too many secrets held with their past that I didn't grow attached to them. The whole book I'm thinking what is wrong with them. Then finally with the twisted plot at the end you sorta but definitely not fully understand what you just read. It felt rushed.. all of it.

Wow! Just wow!

I did not see that ending coming at all! Now I have to go back and listen/read it all over again to catch all the little clues dropped along the way. I love when an author can catch me off guard. I love romance and heat, but it has to have a story line too. This one had it all!

Beautiful Story!!!

This story is such a beautiful, sad, truthful work of art. Without revealing any of the details you will want to experience for yourself, the author does such an incredible job of exploring the depths of the deepest depression and sadness in loss. This book gives hope to those working thru it themselves that there will eventually be some light back in their lives, by encouraging them to work through the pain, and allow it to come in when they are ready.

Ummm... Scratching my Head!

2.75 Stars for me!

My rating range of this story... 1 - 3 Stars
If significant, why? Too disjointed and didn't care much for either character.

Main Character Ratings...
H = 4/10
h = 3/10

Narrator Rating(s)
M = 10/10
F = 10/10
If below 5/10,why?

Was cheating involved? No
Any major triggers to be aware of? Mental Health - Depression

Scenes with heat... Yes
What point does it start? 60%
How much of the story? 10%
Anything beyond M/F? No
If yes, explained

Heat Rating... 7/10
Clean or Fade to Black - 1 or 2
Normal to Descriptive 3-5
Detailed Descriptive Sex - 6-7
Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above

Was there so much sex or unrealistic sex that you rolled your eyes and/or skipped forward? Not really

The back story... Very convoluted. The MCs meet when the h is walking her dog with a friend and the H is jogging. The first meeting has the H being an ass and the h being tongue tied.

The Romance... The H chasing the h pepe-lepew style.

The drama explosion... Major revelations
Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Unreal
Was it OTT? Yes
Separation involved? Ni
Was it resolved properly or rushed? Unsure

Final Notes... This ending comes out of left field. There are a few bread crumbs throughout the story but there wasn't a catalyst to put it in focus. It appears that Sylvia's intent was to shock the reader but a bit of foreshadowing would have made it feel much more realistic.

I had to read/listen twice

Possible spoilers:

When I read/listened to this book the first time I was confused. I kept going back thinking I missed something. It just was off to me. In the last 2 chapters it all made sense (or mostly). I decided to read/listen again. I was able to enjoy it more and could understand stud love story better. There are still a few things I’m confused about like how old David was, how long she was married each time and where did the reality show fit in.
