About this listen

In Montana Territory, one name above all others strikes fear and hatred in the hearts of the Crow Indians - John Jackson, better known these days as Liver-Eating Jackson. Consumed by grief and rage, the mountain man has brutally killed 10 braves so far in his one-man war of vengeance against the Crow, who murdered his beloved wife. Smoke Jensen knows Jackson by another name - "friend." He's not sure to what extent Jackson's exploits are true - devastating loss and frontier savagery have certainly driven lesser men mad. While doing some trapping in the territory, Smoke hears that 20 of the Crow's most fearsome warriors have banded together to hunt down their nemesis. Without a second thought, he rushes to his old friend's aid. But even with Smoke Jensen at his side, the fierce and fearless Liver-Eating Jackson may not be able to beat the odds this time.

the discrepancies from the other books.

why would Mr johnstone write such variations of the smoke Jensen story. while I love these books I'm a little disappointed by the differences.

Interesting to say the least.

does not follow all the other books in the series, but still good. Good choice for maybe a stand alone book. the discrepancies in the beginning were a little annoying but I'm not the writer so what can I do.

Butchery of the Mountain Man

This is another good book about Smoke. In This book Smoke is much older and telling tales of things that happened throughout his life. It's good maybe not as good as the other books about him but still worth listening to. Jack Garrett does an excellent job narrating this book. Another great book

This is another book with Smoke Jensen. It’s has some repeated parts, but it makes the story feel real. This has one of the two best readers of westerns, the other, George Guidall.

butchery of the mountain man

I loved this book. I always love hearing about smokes early life and anytime Preacher is present you know it's going to be good.

Massive amount of errors

If you’ve read the first mountain man series and this series from the beginning and are paying attention there are so many errors of the story I won’t even try to list them. Enjoy the book and draw your own conclusions.

Disappointing

What disappointed you about Butchery of the Mountain Man?

The book was difficult to follow. It also contradicted several items that previous books in this series established. Most prominent was the discussion of Smoke meeting the sheriff of Big Rock, the original story was Smoke established Big Rock and invited Monty Carson to be sheriff, in the current book they detail Smoke going to Big Rock and meeting Monty and Lewis Longmont for the 1st time.

Has Butchery of the Mountain Man turned you off from other books in this genre?

Probably not.

What three words best describe Jack Garrett’s performance?

Jack is always very entertaining.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Compared to the rest of the series not really.

Please pay attention to details

I have read and reread every Johnstone title out there and just wanted all the details in this story to be accurate with the story of Smoke Jenson and his life there were multiple details that were wrong and felt that it didn't do Mr Johnstones greatest heros justice
