About this listen
Learn how to find fulfillment and still your mind through the teachings of Buddha.
This book contains a brief overview of Buddhism. Like many heroic stories, the tale of this religion starts with one man's quest. Siddhartha Gautama was no ordinary man. He was a prince who gave up riches and a life of comfort in order to pierce the veil of body, mind, and spirit. With his fearless confidence and deep compassion for others, he achieved what few before him had ever known. He broke the chains of hectic mortality and found the quiet bliss of immortality.
First we look at the meaning of Buddhism, not only relative to the quest of personal, spiritual freedom but also in the context of other religious philosophies. Then we look at the humble roots of Buddhism as it grew out of Hinduism to become its own unique path toward the goal of all great religions - inner peace and greater spiritual significance. After a brief history of Buddhism, we look at the two branches of this great religion (Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism) and two sub-branches of Mahayana (Tibetan and Zen Buddhism). In chapter seven we take on the provocative subjects of self, karma, bardo, and reincarnation - all from the viewpoint of Buddhism and your author's experiences with it. Next we look at Buddhism compared to some other religions or spiritual philosophies. And finally we look at the impact Buddhism has had on the West.
Within this book you'll find the answers to questions and topics such as:
- The meaning of Buddhism
- Buddhist history and roots in Hinduism
- Mahayana Buddhism
- Theravada Buddhism
- Tibetan Buddhism
- Zen Buddhism
- Self, karma, bardo, and reincarnation
- And much more!

Story
In this book, author Bob Peck takes us through his own highlights of the “spiritual buffet line”: from present-embracing Zen Buddhists to insightful Indigenous shamans and compassionate karma yogis. He explores the avatar doctrine of the Bhagavad Gita, the work of Byron Katie, new science in relation to spirit, and the true loving message of Jesus. As Peck articulates, the Bible is not infallible, but in certain moments, it does point to the reality of who we are, as does Sri Ramana Maharshi, Carl Jung, Anandamayi Ma, the Gospel of Thomas, and A Course in Miracles.

Story
In this groundbreaking audiobook, neuropsychology professor Chris Niebauer explains how after decades of research on the brain, Western science may have inadvertently confirmed a fundamental tenet of Buddhism: anatta, or the doctrine of "no self". Niebauer shows how findings in neuropsychology suggest that our sense of self is actually an illusion created by the left side of the brain and that it exists in the same way a mirage in the middle of the desert exists: as a thought rather than a thing.

General interest in Buddhism has never been higher. The story and teachings of a man who lived 2,500 years ago have a special resonance for us today, perhaps because he taught a way of life that was not based on belief in a creator god but rather on personal experience. "Test my words for yourself," he said. But what lies behind those distinctive images of the Buddha, seated with unshakeable poise, with eyes half-closed and a slight smile? Jinananda, a Western-born Buddhist, divides the subject into the Three Jewels....

Story
The Eightfold Path is the most widely known formulation of the Buddha's teaching. It is ancient, reaching back to the Buddha's very first discourse, and it is highly venerated as a unique treasury of wisdom and practical guidance. The teaching of the Eightfold Path challenges us to grasp the implications of that vision, and asks us to transform ourselves in its light. Like the teaching itself, this work covers every aspect of life.

Story
As the practice of mindfulness permeates mainstream western culture, more and more people are engaging in a traditional form of Buddhist meditation. However, many of these people have little interest in the religious aspects of Buddhism, and the practice occurs within secular contexts such as hospitals, schools, and the workplace. Is it possible to recover from the Buddhist teachings a vision of human flourishing that is secular rather than religious without compromising the integrity of the tradition?

The Dalai Lama deftly connects how training the mind in compassion for other beings is directly related to - and in fact a prerequisite for - the very pinnacle of Buddhist meditation.

Now I Get It what I was in search.
I must say, this is one of the best books (about anything!) I've ever read. The basics of Buddhism are presented in a clear and concise manner and are made easily understood. Being a Buddhist myself, I found this book to help me gain a deeper understanding of my beliefs. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those who have little knowledge about Buddhism.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audible.
Bought this on a recommendation from a friend. It's informative and well-written. Not in align with the rigid beliefs I was brought up with, but somehow comforting and reassuring. It is a good book to evaluate your spiritual side whether or not you have religion in your life. This book is the beginning of a new phase in life for me.

Getting Started with Buddhism
I am not new to the teachings of Buddhism but was looking for somewhere to re-start. This book focused on the core of Buddhism which is awareness and what that means to Buddhist's. At times I was a little confused but these teachings are new to me and ultimately I have a clear understanding. The book was a good start and I am looking into further readings on understanding the Buddhist path.

An Ideal Introduction To Buddhism
Elias Axmar delivers an upfront hitherto thorough description of Buddhism. He uses a mixture of anecdotes and "real-world" applications to get across his key ideas. These could variety anywhere from stories about Guatama Buddha's life or relating Buddhism to work and relations.
His unpremeditated expressions and almost laid back tone offer a stimulating new take on this common subject. Because of that, out of the three books I have read about Buddhism I have felt the most engrossed by this one. Don't let the relaxed style of this book make you too confident though, it still took a while to get through.

Expecting one of the best, but its okay.
I have read many books on Buddhism so I already have some knowledge about it. The author's messages are redundant and sometimes he still doesn't seem to get to the point. Buddhism is not rocket science, but he struggles to explain the plain and simple.
I am unable to post five stars to it.

The author explains a lot of info in over an hour.
The influential messages all over the book, such as the perception of "living in the now" rather than analyzing the whole lot, are value a slow listening pace, and I would highly recommend this book for anyone concerned in receiving an preliminary grasp on the pillars of Buddhism.

A good book but not the best
Buddhism played a smaller part than I expected from reading the title, and at times I would have appreciated a little more background to better understand the way studying this religion actually benefited her.

Great book about Buddhism in modern times, an amazing overview about the complete Buddhist path, way of living and meditation practice of Sutra and Tantra.
Written in modern language and therefore accessible to Western people.
A joy to read and study. Suitable for beginners as well as advanced practitioners.
