About this listen

Betrothed to the heir of Lord Canis, Aurelia finds herself thrown to the wolves. The Canis Clan are no ordinary warriors, but beasts raging beneath the skin of men. Their name chills the heart of every man in Britannia, though the heart of one maiden may be saved....

Once a mighty warrior in high esteem among the Clan, Sir Raf Canis knows all too well the dangers Aurelia will face in her new role as Lady of Blackens Gate. Tasked with the humiliating errand of delivering his brother's intended, Raf instead finds himself fighting for her life - and falling into an impossible love that he cannot deny.

Very Good Story Line, Amazing Narration!

This book was very different from most shifter books and I enjoyed it very much. Aurelia is human and she is given to a Wolf Alpha's son for marriage by her father. When members of the pack are sent to bring her to her new husband including her soon to be brother-n-law her life takes a different direction. She is an innocent girl who grew up with everything she needed and has never seen the bad in the world but she finds an inner strength even she didn't know she had. Raf is the alpha's eldest son but he is not the favorite. He is a good guy and will do anything to protect her. These characters are unique and imperfect which makes them even more likable. I enjoyed the story line but do wish it was longer because it's hard to feel the love between them when they have only known each other a few days. I am not a fan of insta-love but extra points for no cliffhanger!

Tatiana Sokolov did a fabulous job with this book. I always love her work but in this one she does an accent that I thought was fabulous!

Historical Shifter is a winner!!

I've listened quite a few books but never have I ever listened to a historical shifter book so this is a "new" genre to me! Narrator was excellent and did a great job helping me to hear/know when the character changed between Aurelia & Raf. I truly enjoyed this audio and would recommend this quick listen to those who enjoy historical & shifter books. Although there is some sexy time (to me) it was done in a tasteful description. I was able to listen to this audio in one day so it not a L O N G listen! Honest opinion is given for exchange for gift of this audio.

My, What Big Teeth You Have

Bride of the Wolf is a lovely historical, shifter, romantic fiction with a bit of erotica. (try to say that three times quickly). Aurelia's father plans to marry her off to the head of the regional werewolf pack, Reddick Canis, in exchange for their protection. Those escorting her to her future husband include his brother, Raf Canis. I will simply say that things do not go as planned on the journey there.

Abigail Barnette offers us a wonderfully written story and shows us that even prim and proper young ladies know how to claim and protect the man they want as well as themselves. Aurelia, you little vixen hellcat (good for you).

Interesting factoid, Abigail Barnette is a pseudonym that Jennifer Armintrout uses when writing erotica. Personally I think the pseudonym is used in this case so her vampire characters do not get jealous because she is writing about werewolves. Armintrout is best know for her urban fantasy series Blood Ties.

Tatiana Sokolov brings this story to life with vocals, inflections, and even just the right amount of accent. I would definitely listen to other books she has narrated.

First I loved, loved, the narrations for this book, I have listened to this narrator before and I have loved everything I have heard she brings the book to life. I love it.

When asked what books I like I always say all romance but historical but I realized after this book that, that’s a lie because I have read and listened to other historical romances and loved them. Same goes for this book I loved it.

I enjoyed watching Aurelia become a strong will character. Not just letting things pass her by. Sure she was scared out of her mind but she overcame and I really enjoyed how it all came to pass.

Also love that Sir Raf Canis isn’t the “likely” hero but he so it. And truly to overcome how you feel about one’s self has to be powerful. But to actually like yourself even with your deformities, I really enjoyed this part of the story.

So yes I love romance/ historical and shifter.. Bring it on baby . :)

Lovely, lovely, lovely, divine

Overall I really enjoyed this tale. It was almost perfect to me. The very few negatives that arose to my mind were swallowed by the weightier and more abundant positive aspects. I liked Aurelia and Raf, especially Raf. Aurelia wasn't weak, but there were times I wish she could've been more helpful, have more strength in a certain situation. So my adoration of Raf and then Raf with Aurelia carried the story for me. Raf had a physical aspect to overcome, and watching him overcome and deal so beautifully with the ugliness of life and the ugliness of others endeared him to me. Surprisingly there's a small paranormal aspect, though it's not integral to the story in a way common to other stories with the same sort of paranormal beings. And the beings are portrayed in a meaningfully different way. I can't say more.
On the negative side, Aurelia expressed love too quickly to seem substantive, but the quickness of it was also acknowledged, which I liked and made it different than immediate-love stories. It wasn't like that here. And it wasn't as quickly said back. Also, Aurelia's first sex scene left a bit to be desired, came across as too matter-of-fact, just sorta ho-hum. But the next time she made love, the same problem wasn't present. It was better.
And the story was a bit predictable in parts, but the telling of it was still so good that it didn't detract from the experience of hearing it and watching it unfold. I hope Audible will get more stories by this author. I was disappointed to find that this was the only one.
