About this listen

Challenge is inevitable. Defeat is not.
In the gripping finale of this cross-country post-apocalyptic odyssey, Ben and his crew traverse the desolate landscapes of a world ravaged by disaster, facing untold challenges, and forging unlikely alliances along the way.

As Ben and the others approach their final destination of Durango, Colorado, the group is tested yet again on their final push home, confronting the ghosts of their past and the harsh realities of a fractured world.

In a climactic showdown against the remnants of a once-civilized society turned ruthless, the bonds of family and the strength of the human spirit are pushed to their limits. The journey culminates in an unforgettable and heart-wrenching conclusion, where sacrifices are made, destinies are revealed, and the true meaning of survival is discovered.

In the shadows of a post-apocalyptic sunset, Ben, Sandy, and the kids grapple with the bittersweet reality of a new beginning forged from the ashes of the old world. The last leg of their journey is a testament to resilience, hope, and the enduring power of the human will in the face of an uncertain tomorrow.

Great story, and doesn’t progress like the genera normally does.

I really enjoyed the series, and particularly the fact that it doesn’t follow a pattern of widespread rebuilding but focuses on the “Dark Road”. A follow up would series of life in Durango would be great but I don’t think I’d listen if I have to purchase as many individual books. That beings me to this-
If I had to issue a critique it would be that there are a LOT of books to buy in the series, and I’d have liked it in three or for packs. Still well worth the listen!

Action packed

it was a very good story full of action and it also gave a lot of character reflections which made them seem more human and not so cold. I do wish that there had been more of their lives once they made it home

Satisfied with this emding. Thank you.

After following Ben and his group through an intense and emotional journey across 15 books, Breakthrough delivers the ending this saga truly deserved. It’s not just a conclusion—it’s a powerful, satisfying, and well-earned finale to a series that has been both thrilling and meaningful.

Bruno Miller continues to impress with his ability to blend action, emotion, and human resilience. This last installment ties everything together beautifully. The stakes are higher, the decisions more critical, and the emotions run deeper. Long-time fans will feel the weight of the journey—and the reward of staying until the very end.

Andrew Tell once again brings his masterful narration to the story, adding intensity and heart to every scene. His performance has been consistent and impactful throughout the entire series, making the experience immersive from the very first book to the last.

Breakthrough is a reminder of why I started this series: for the adventure, the survival, and above all, the humanity. This final chapter honors that journey, and I’m grateful to have taken it.

Highly recommended—this book, and the entire series, is a must-listen for fans of post-apocalyptic fiction with substance and soul.

good characters and energetic adventure

I like the morality of the characters in conjunction with the reality of having to do hard things to survive. This isn't one of those hard core apocalypse stories that can be more depressing. It's more like the hero adventure stories. More fun than heartache.
