About this listen
Breaking the Cycle: The Epigenetics, Psychology & Trauma of Narcissistic Families not only tells a story about the author’s journey through healing and recovery, but also dives deep into the science and psychology behind generational family disfunction.
Part one of this book tells the author’s story and discusses the problems which are pervasive within broken families, including mental illness, addiction and generational trauma. Part two of the book discusses the underlying science and psychology, like epigenetics and neuroplasticity in a way that very few books have. In part three of the book, the author integrates these concepts with his own story, and these complex topics become relevant and relatable to healing in a way which few books have made them.
This isn’t a self-help book; it is a primer about the underlying scientific and psychological principles that allow people to heal and change when they are willing to do the work. Where possible, the author tells the listener exactly what he did to overcome his own traumatic past and change his broken thinking to become whole again.
This book has been written to inspire others and prove that no matter where you are in your life, healing is possible, but only with the work of change. Right now, more than ever, so many people are searching for a way to heal, and many find themselves unable to change their lives. This is the crux of the issue, a desire to change without a willingness to go the distance. Most of all, the book attempts to address this challenge.

Overcoming tremendous obstacles
Although not a professional, the details of narcissistic behavior and cause and effect of environmental factors was almost spot on. For mental illness to be such an underlying issue in his upbringing, the courage and tenacity possessed were encouraging and inspiring. A beautiful account of someone who has changed almost insurmountable situations and become a whole, productive person gives hope to us all
