About this listen

A forbidden love...

Liliana Scuderi has been in love with Romero from the moment she first saw him. After her sisters married for tactical reasons, she hopes for a chance at true love. Then, her father promises her to a man more than twice her age. No amount of begging can make him change his mind.

Romero always ignored Lily’s flirting. Her age and status made her off-limits, but even his control has its limits. Wanting her when she’s supposed to marry another man could mean war between New York and the Chicago outfit, and Romero has always put the Famiglia first.

Lily suspects her sisters and Romero would risk everything for her, but is her happiness worth that much? Is love worth a war between the New York Famiglia and the Chicago outfit?

Lily and Romero

This was a great addition to the Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles. Romero loved Lily but tried to fight it because he was a soldier and not a capo. He gave in when she stayed with Aria and Luca in New York for a few months after her mother died. While she was there, her horrible father called for her to return to Chicago the next morning. He wanted her to marry a much older man while he married the man’s daughter who was only about a year older than Lily. Both men were horrible. Lily agreed to do it so her father would not start a war and kill Romero. Romero came to her rescue when she called him on her wedding night. Of course, Luca and Matteo were involved so they could help Romero and Lily. I cannot wait to see how Dante handles this. They may have started a war. Tim Paige and Virginia Rose did a great job with the narration. Occasionally, they pronounced Romero’s name as Romano.

Solid sequel to a great series.

Overall I'm pleased and enjoyed this audio. My issues are more about being able to connect with the characters, which in comparison to the previous books, I just couldn't get into. Lilly felt too whiny and Romero was too weak in my opinion. Also the female voice of Mr. Tim Page fell a bit flat. The transitions between male and female dialogue could use some improvement. Virginia Rose is solid... She plays emotional storylines well so it suited her style of narration, but again, the character was just too much in her emotional drama.

Pure Love

The line from Bound by Honor "Romero will never touch Lily" makes me laugh throughout this book.

Some people might have found Lily's teenage advances as annoying. I found them endearing and reminded me of being that age and experiencing my first feelings of love. Lily and Romero definitely are one of my favorite couples. Lily similar to Valentina never gave up on her mission to get her man. Romero's constantly struggle to resist Lily, showed how much he respected Lily, her family and Luca. I'm actually surprised he kept his relationship with Lily a secret from Luca so long. Especially once Aria found out. Given he cares for Aria it was uncharacteristics for him. I will always hate that Lily actually went through with her arranged marriage. Because why?!?! But I'm glad Romero didn't wait long to save her. And I think the wedding night was the needed drama the book series needed. Lily and Romero's book reminded me why I love being a hopeless romantic. I fangirled so much reading this book. Definitely one of my favorites!

Each one of Cora's books makes me love her more and more as a author. I look forward to reading each one. And she does a great job in making it difficult to decide who is your favorite couple.

Solid sequel

I did not expect to like this book after my expectation fell flat with Mateo’s story. I was going to skip it but it was already in my library…I had put book 3 because Gianna’s story became too annoying, I was actually irritated and decided to move on… I just couldn’t get into a character THAT selfish… and hated her more during this story… she liked Mateo but wanted to be a spoiled brat… 🙄 her actions of course ruined everything for others… I couldn’t get past that… she wasn’t a redeemable character at all!

Anyway,

Liliana came off so mature for her age, more mature than her 2 sisters. She did seem like someone born into this lifestyle even though she didn’t care about it, she wasn’t as stupid as Gianna (OMG! I really don’t like her!)

We see how Lilliana’s crush developed into a full blown first love that I enjoy reading. This book is also where we decide team Famiglia or team outfit 😏
I love Chicago IRL but in these series only Dante and Val seem like the only decent people. So I may be team famiglia.
😀

Romero and Lilliana coupling was a bit more believable (I guess I like stories that could be reality unless it’s vampire or shape shifters) I loved how they communicated and how they went about navigating life in the famiglia and the outfit respectively. If you are following the series, don’t miss this (if you are looking to skip one, I’d skip book 3, I haven’t finished it.) Only complaint I have is I wish there was more of their life together in NYC and even their wedding… it ended too abruptly.

Great book and amazing performance!!

I love this book when I first read it. Cora is one of my favey authors and I devour all of her audios! She picks great narrators for her works and this was a great casting for Romero and Lily. Virginia did a wonderful job delivering the emotions of Lily, capturing her essence. I love love loved it. Tim did such a brilliant job as Romero. He is arguably one of the sweetest men in Cora's universe and Tim really captured that, but with a hard tough Made Man edge on top of it. Thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for more Cora audios!

I like family series

Well this series has been good so far. I wish she would’ve used Wenn Ross or Aiden Snow for the male narrator. They have deep voices for the alpha male roles, plus a few other narrators that are top notch, but so far so good. I’m skeptical about the narrator for the last one about Dante, but they have already not put all the books out on Audible, so before I go to the next series which picks up with the young brother in Vegas I may have to try to get through it??
