Great book, wonderful characters

I loved the book. A dark Harry Potter in America vibe, modern day. I recommend this book for anyone who likes fantasy or magic books, along with people who like role playing games...

YA tale of magic in America

Modern take on magic in America with a well thought out history and fantastic details. I liked it as much as Harry Potter. Narration was great - had a story time feel to it.

An enjoyable book of magic with great characters

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and how much I ended up enjoying the main characters. each one was quite unique and had good growth throughout the book.

Both the protagonist and their adversaries seemed well-thought-out with interesting backstories.

The world was also interesting in its portrayal of magic and how it intersects a modern world.

Now that I know these characters I would be interested in a sequel. I'd like to see what other trouble they can get into.

The narrator was awesome. his use of accents and characterization really helped Define every one of the characters throughout the book. it made for a great listening during my commute. Great value for the price.

Imaginative, Fun and Very Well Written

One of my favorite books! This is an intriguing tale set in modern day America about a magical academy for gifted teens. The characters are all complex and lovable each with their own talents and magical gifts and Mr. Burnett has done a superb job of developing them to come to life in your mind. If you like magic and intrigue with unpredictable plot twists and richly developed characters (and I can't leave out the laugh out loud humor!) then you will love this book. I am impatiently awaiting a sequel to this wonderful debut!! (hint, hint ;)

Must listen if you don't have time to read!

Would you listen to Book of Secrets again? Why?

It's an engaging, heartfelt adventure with a character-driven story. It's also a world-building book, so there's a lot to digest, but every twist and turn is supported by a carefully organized plot.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are diverse, but relatable. They would never be friends if they weren't thrown together by circumstance and this story captures those moments. There's a bit of everyone I went to high school with built in to the characters and a fair bit of me.

There's also a fair few twists that I loved, but absolutely did not see coming.

Have you listened to any of Michael Slusser’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time hearing Mr. Slusser, but he was great.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

An awesome listen

Many interesting movements at once. It’s good to have something more than the tired old one or two characters save the world. Many well written surprises. And excellent character interplay. Well written and very well narrated.
