About this listen

Between 1978 and 1983, Dennis Nilsen murdered and mutilated at least 12 young men in London. Many of these young men went under the radar socially, which enabled Nilsen's shocking killing spree to go undetected for years. This true crime audiobook lifts the lid on his sinister story.

From his early upbringing in Scotland to his final act as a free man, this story weaves its way through the darker recess of a disturbed man’s psyche and his compulsion to murder. This book delves into the details of the killings, what triggered Nilsen to commit them, his reliance on alcohol and his loneliness, and the extraordinary reasons behind why he bathed the dead bodies and kept them in his apartment for extended periods of time.

This is his spine-chilling story. If you’re a fan of true crime, then this book is a must-listen and opens the lid on one of the most chilling and notorious serial killers in British history. It will make the flesh crawl under your skin.

Great details on a serial killer I hadn't heard of

I'm a huge true crime fan and Dennis Nilsen was a new story to me. Maybe because I'm more familiar with US serial killers.

Either way this story was great. Perfect amount of detail and I like the way the author put you into Dennis' shoes.

The narrator did a great job of narrating from Dennis' perspective as well!

I look forward to more books from this author/narrator team!

Very Interesting

I thought it was interesting hearing the story from the point of view of the killer. The pacing of the book was great. I think the narrator was fantastic!

Very interesting!

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I especially liked that it was on the shorter side and didn’t add a lot of extra “fluff”. Overall I would definitely listen to this again!

Horrifying True Crime

This one is not for the faint of heart. The majority of the run time is spent on the nitty gritty details of the murders from the killers perspective and spares no details. The books is written from Dennis Nilsen’s perspective really lets the reader tap into the psychology of a serial killer. While the book is a comprehensive look at the life of the killer towards the end of the book it gets a tad repetitive with the listing off of victims names trying to reinforce how he felt but with its relatively short run time there is not much time to forget victims and the repetition of names and details we just heard didn’t add too much to the story. Overall it was better than most true crime podcasts I have listened to and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested.

Gruesome, fast paced and scary.

Good story but terrible narrator. it felt as if the narrator was reading to me, very choppy, no inflection of tone. Terrifying story though.

Bazinga

I enjoy true crime and this book did not disappoint. I didn't know anything about Dennis Nilsen and learned a lot. The author did their research. This book peaked my interest and I went through a YouTube rabbit hole watching some of his interviews. This is an overall good listen. I was able to visualize everything that was happening; gruesome as it was. The narrator did a great job as well. Overall an enjoyable listen.

Disclaimer: I've been listening at 2x speed for so long anything else sounds like slow motion. My enjoyment of the narrator is based on my listening speed. I only leave 5 stars for books I've listened to multiple times. I'll update my review if I listen again.

I requested this book from the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Interesting insight of a twisted mind

First of all, I've never ver read nor listen a true crime story until the day this came to me as a gift from a post I saw on reddit and I must say it's quite an intriguing genre, that said, I found Bonefire Bodies fascinating, this listen made me feel disgust as the plot was revealing itself to me, with its situations and gory details, but you cannot help but to empathize with Nilsen as it gives you insight in his sick mind in his twisted search of what everybody is looking for in life; is worth the money even though it was a gift.

Couldn't listen beyond couple chapters

I'm a tough sell on books. I don't want to slam the author and narrator, however, if a story (content & narration), doesn't capture me by the 2nd, 3rd or 4th chapter, I can't listen or read further. I really wanted to hear this man's story too : (

Horrible

First the story read like something off the front page of a 1981 tabloid "Bat Boy discovered in..." the facts are compiled from what you could find in wiki and watching a bad documentary, the narrator mispronounced Thames (long A cringe) and would have been a better reader for a bad children's book if he didn't read so fast, I wish there could have been someone like Anne Rule or even John Douglas to write this book so we could learn a bit more about this monster, his making, motives and the people in his life instead of just covering ONLY the gooey parts.
