About this listen

A dirty deal was struck. Humanity was allowed to keep 300 rebellious worlds. In return, we declared war on a powerful enemy from beyond the frontier.

A frantic build-up of forces has begun, but the task is hopeless. Seeking allies, Earth's legions are sent to Blood World. A planet on the fringe of known space, where the people only respect masters of combat. Earth's Legions must impress them, but other alien powers have been invited to join the contest. The prize consists of billions of loyal troops - Earth must win.

Fighting and dying and fighting again, the struggle is half-mad - but so is James McGill.

Blood World is the eighth book in the Undying Mercenaries Series.

Perfect!

Just what I wanted to end (for now, I hope), this series. Did I mention that The Undying Mercenaries is my favorite series? It is. Thanks for a great romp through space, Mr. Larson.

Excellent as usual for this series

What made the experience of listening to Blood World the most enjoyable?

This is my favorite series of B.V. Larson. Star Force was excellent also, but I just love this one. My only issue with him is he is a bit creepy with trying to insert sex into every single story he writes when it really doesn't have any place or need. This one has a few parts where I actually laughed out loud as well.

A good entry, but not the best.

Any additional comments?

This book feels somehow shorter than the others. Kind of an interlude sort of thing. It's definitely entertaining though, and you can tell he's setting up for something book in the future. My only real complaint is how thirsty for sex Mcgill is in this book. I know that's a weird complaint as Mcgill has been a womanizer from the very beginning, but it's over the top in this one. Usually in each book he has one or two interests that inevitably find out about each other. In this one, literally every single woman Mcgill sees is in his sights. Every. Single. One. It's as if he suddenly forgets about every other woman he's involved with whenever he encounters another, but still pretends he cares about all of them.

Mark Boyett elevates these books as usual, but I think he forgot how he used to do Claver's voice. Which is a shame, because his voice was one of my favorites.

Good, but still not quite as good as the first few

It was a decent story, but like the last few books in this series, this story lacks the right proportions of big battles and tactics to general scheming and subterfuge. I became hooked on the first few books because of the large combat portions where battle and tactics were described at length.

This book and the last few books in this series spend far too little of time in big battles and a little too much time on the scheming aspects. The first few books had very interesting and unique oppenents with distinct tactics to overcoming said foes. In this book, battles seemed like they were put in out of necessity, rather than a focal point.

I somewhat enjoyed this book more out of merely being invested in the story after reading the first 7 books, rather than enjoying this book on its own merits. If this was a beginning to the series, I don't think I would come back to read the rest of the books. I hope the next books have a larger proportion of interesting and engaging battles.

Amazing. constantly has you guessing.

One of my all-time favorite protagonists. McGill constantly gets himself into unwinnable situations, but seems to always be able to work his way through by following his inner compass in ways unexpected.

I like this series!

Fantastic series!! All the back-stabbing, all the hidden agendas and more

So many characters that I like here, and the storyline is building and getting clearer. I can't say much here, but I can't wait to see what will happen and how humanity will survive what is coming

I can't say much other than if you are already reading this series, then you will like this book.

Rising Sci Fi Star

This series, and Larson's writing as a whole, just keep getting better and better, smarter and smarter. A truly unique voice. Humble, entertaining and without apology.

The narrator has also cemented himself as the best in the business.
