Publisher's summary

A stand-alone novel in the best-selling In the Shadows series.

A photographer with a dark past. A former SEAL without a family. He'll do whatever it takes to protect the woman he loves.

Calder Blake lost everything: his mother, his father, his very identity. Until Cass, he didn’t believe he deserved to be a Blake, where family and loyalty always come first.

But what if Cass can’t give Calder what he needs to move on from his broken past? Or worse, what if someone’s determined Cass will never get a chance to become a Blake?

Dear listeners: Blood Rose is a stand-alone story, but if you haven’t heard how Cass and Calder’s love story first started, you can do so through Gold Shimmer and Steel Rush. Not only do you get to take the journey with Cass and Calder, but you’ll also get to visit with Sebastian and Talia, since they play key roles in Cass and Calder’s story.

Calder and Cass wrap up

The 8th book in the “In the Shadows” series that started with “Mister Black”.
The series follows all the sibs, half sibs of the Blake family throughout the 8 books. Blood Rose wraps up the relationship of Cass and Calder with the culmination of their wedding.
Also in the mix is Cass’s doppelgänger, Celeste who all but several people, thinks is dead, including her sister.
There is the conclusion of a few sub stories and a hint that perhaps Mina’s story is coming.

Illegal adoption, isn't adoption- its trafficking

So very disappointed with the authors choice of a human trafficking disguised as adoption plot for the conclusion of this book. Even more disturbing is the 'we're going o lie to her about the child about their origins in an effort to protect her' plot line. What utter crap. Everyone has a right to know who they are and where they come from. No one should make that decision for someone else.... NO ONE. The truth always has a way of coming out, and this short sighted plot line will lead to the obvious conclusion that when the child grows up, she'll find out that those closest to her all lied to her, her entire life about her origins... Nice Non-HEA.... forgiveness is not guaranteed. So those reading this, don't think for a second that this is OK? It isn't. In this plot line, the author had suddenly decided that the whole maternal side of this child's family don't matter. That its too messy to attempt to write this in a credible, legal, and morally correct way. Any respect I had for the author is lost now.

So to recap, Lets confront a few myths.
Just because you mean well, doesn't make an illegal action OK
Infertility, real or perceived doesn't entitled you to someone else's child .
And lastly, how convenient that the rest of this child's family suddenly doesn't matter because you want what you want, and you'll get it no matter what- and your wants and wishes go above anyone else.
Regrettably these myths live everyday in the real world, and this plot line just re-enforces these illegal, immoral adoption realities that happen everyday.
