About this listen
Charlie Naylor is a good guy, but he's never been great at multi-tasking. When Larynk, the god of corn, sends Charlie into a fantasy game, he just can't help himself trying. By combining his love of daggers, magic, and animals, he becomes the Blademage Beastmaster.
With a dangerous new pet, a deadly selection of daggers, and some awesome spells, he must make allies and kill monsters as he walks his path to glory. If he can do that, then he might just create a legacy for himself.
He used to work in an office where he pushed paper, filled in spreadsheets, and made coffee. Now, he casts, conjures, stabs, and tames.

Warning Spoilers.
Over all I like this book, the game rules, the class, the class skills and the pet all good. but there’s one thing that bothers me. his biggest problem in the book is trying to have the people in the town he lives in not kill his pet. but giving the other towns he’s been two seam to have no problems with the kind of beast his pet is, y docent he just leave? He docent even really build a friendship on his end in the town simply “buying” the friendship of the first npc he met. After him having the pet and living in the town becomes a problem they start to be friends, the logical solution at the beginning of his problem would have simply been to move on to a different town he is living in what seams to be the one town where people treat him like shit and are suspicious of him and want to kill his pet. It just docent make sense to me, maybe I missed something .

great book
this is a great book, the concept is something that I have thought about a lot. the only issue is that the narrator's voice is so relaxing to me I fall asleep everytime. THIS IS A GOOD THING FOR ME. As I have severe insomnia. and it took me 3 months to finish the story completely. I am going to get the next one soon.

Reality game in a whole other level!
So, nothing like being sucked into a video game. This happens to Charlie when the 'god of corn' is trying to make a point and win at a completely different game. The story left a lot of questions asking 'why', but, over all, I really enjoyed the book. The ending didn't leave a cliffhanger, but did allow for the story to continue. Prefer that over cliff hangers, any day of the week.
Scott Bennett is the narrator and DEFINITELY one of my favorite narrators. His cadence and flow of the narrations and the character voices allow for the listener to know the story and who the characters are. There is zero doubt who is talking based on the voice alone.
I am looking forward to book 2. After all, I need some questions answered! haha

What a fun imagination put to the pages!
Blademage Beastmaster: A LitRPG Series, Book 1
By: Deck Davis Narrated by: J. Scott Bennett
What a fun imagination put to the pages! Deck Davis is a talented story teller. And Scott Bennett performs his story perfectly. I loved this godly world brought to earth in a fun, and sometimes funny way. The characters are as developed as they are unique. The world created for them is a perfect fit and the jokes are hilarious.
I loved this book and rate the story with 4 stars, the narration with 5 stars and overall this is a 4.5 star book.

LITRPG strikes again. Gamer heaven
If you haven’t yet entered the LITRPG then staring here is a great way to get your feet wet. If you are a gamer, fan of rpg, d&d or anything of the sort than the LITRPG universe is for you. In this tale a young gamer is immersed into a game that will force him to create his own future. All paths are not already divined and your character and class are defined by your actions and choices. Our hero becomes, as the title indicates, a blademage beastmaster. Just what is that and how is it achieved and to what purposes will his skills be put? Listen along and find out. As always an incredible well written tale with an amazing narrator who can truly carry you away into the tale. Entertaining story
I enjoyed this amusing LitRPG story. An ordinary human is whisked, by betting gods, into a fantasy gamer type land to see if he could become a hero. The idea of bored gods trying to get more interesting jobs by tricking other gods in betting on a game, is amusing. The storyline is interesting and easily keeps your attention. You soon become invested in Charlie’s success and I enjoyed his progress in the game. The narrator did a great job of infusing the humor in the story into his voice and he made it easy to distinguish the different characters as he gave them individual voices. This is a captivating, humorous adventure that leaves space to continue the game at the end. I hope that there will be more books in this world.

Art Replacing Life
When reading this book the audience will encounter two questions:
1) What happens when deities get bored? 2) What happens when a man with an unremarkable life is given a chance to change that?
As the book states it is a LitRPG, so there are many references to video game mechanics, and how those might play out in what passes for 'real life'. For those that are already gamers, the frequency of the mechanics explanations may break them out of the story immersion, however for those that are not familiar with RPG mechanics it can be more explanatory and enlightening.
Being familiar with the narrator, I can recognize the Role that each cast member plays by the voice he uses for each one.He is also very good at portraying the emotions for each one.
The story for the most part, aside from the mechanics breaks, flows well and can draw the audience in. As with any good RPG, this story is only a portion of the whole as the hero has many more things to explore and accomplish. Hopefully this means there will be many more installments to come.

Family friendly LitRPG
This is the first time I've read a book by Deck Davis and the first audiobook I've listened to by J. Scott Bennett and I can say that while it starts off slow It gets much better after the first two chapters once the story actually starts to get going. While it's a LitRPG it feels like it was inspired greatly by classic fantasy and fiction like that seen in the 1920s - 1950s and the main character feels like a classic everyman. While there are a few instances of subtle cursing the book also feels like it would be great for a younger audience who is trying to get into the genre and it doesn't have any of the harem aspect or over sexualization a lot of the genre seems to suffer from, It very much feels the kind of book you can enjoy with your family or read your kids for bed time. The cast of supporting characters around the main character are developed pretty well for such a short book and there are hints at much more world building coming in the next book. The narrator does a great job of bringing you into the world the author has created in a very calming use your imagination kind of tone that you could easily picture reading to large groups of people in a family friendly venue like a library and contributes further to classic fiction and family audience vibe the book itself gives off. If you enjoy classic fantasy and fiction and want something you can enjoy with your kids or family or want something in the genre that isn't full of obscure references and over sexualization I definitely think this is the book for you.
