About this listen
A surprisingly simple approach to help everyday people become everyday innovators.
The pressure to generate big ideas can feel overwhelming. We know that bold innovations are critical in these disruptive and competitive times, but when it comes to breakthrough thinking, we often freeze up.
Instead of shooting for a $10-billion payday or a Nobel Prize, the most prolific innovators focus on Big Little Breakthroughs - small creative acts that unlock massive rewards over time. By cultivating daily micro-innovations, individuals and organizations are better equipped to tackle tough challenges and seize transformational opportunities.
How did a convicted drug dealer launch and scale a massively successful fitness company? What core mindset drove LEGO to become the largest toy company in the world? How did a Pakistani couple challenge the global athletic shoe industry? What simple habits led Lady Gaga, Banksy, and Lin-Manuel Miranda to their remarkable success?
Big Little Breakthroughs isn’t just for propeller-head inventors, fancy-pants CEOs, or hoodie-donning tech billionaires. Rather, it’s a surpassingly simple system to help everyday people become everyday innovators.

Story
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Great Examples
Yay! Not just another “Steve Jobs” example book! Love that small-time innovators who created big results are featured. People who had great ideas but even better creative execution of the idea, succeeding without huge budgets (usually) or big names. Well done. Very inspiring.

Good listen-Notbing groundbreaking
I enjoyed the listen, and you can hear the passion in the reader's voice. Lot's of interesting stories, but also a little like a multi-hour motivational speech. I would recommend, but would liken it too the lettuce and tomato of a BLT, not the bacon. It makes what you have better, but isn't the foundation from which you start.

Not Bad But Not Great
There are nuggets of helpful information throughout this book but it lacks consistency and polish. At times the author talks about his own best practices and at others he focuses on the work of other people. The most obvious area for improvement, in my opinion, is the final audio production. There are several times where the narrator gets cutoff, mid-sentence, only to start the sentence over. I don't think the final recording went through a very rigorous proofing process, which makes the final version somewhat distracting at times.
