Acerca de esta escucha

Berlin, 1938

It’s no longer safe here.

When the Jewish families of Berlin start disappearing in nightly raids, 21-year-old Jacob Kagan knows it’s only a matter of time before the trucks come for him. Along with his family and best friend, he flees the country he’s always called home to find shelter in a Dutch refugee camp. Before long, the Netherlands falls to the Nazi war machine - Jacob’s new home is transformed into a transit camp with weekly trains bound for the horrors of the Eastern concentration camps.

Handpicked by the cruel new SS regime to police the camp’s Jewish population, Jacob has the opportunity to save his parents and best friend from the dreaded transport lists - but at what cost?

Based on true events, Beyond the Tracks is a redemptive story of unconditional loyalty, and a will to survive at impossible odds.

I agree with a bunch of the other reviewers. The story is very good and gripping. But the narration is just weird. He tried way too hard. If he had just not done the accents, it would’ve been fine.

Great story…narration - yikes

It was very well written. It touched my heart the friendship Jacob and Ian had. The story is beautiful in the midst of the horrors they lived through during that terrible time.

A wonderful story

This story was very compelling. The atrocities committed during this time were beyond comprehension. I felt rage and shame at the same time!
I also felt pride that the Polish people, as well as many other nations, took part in helping these prisoners.
The book showcased the best and worst of humanity.
We have a trip to Poland planned for this summer. Auchwitz is on the itinerary and this book has brought a new dimension to the trip.

Makes me proud to be Polish!

I have read many books on World War II! This is one of my favorites!

The courage and bravery required by those involved is unfathomable. This was a great look at how things started so slowly and built up to the death camps. It’s scary how real this is, especially in today’s America.

I really enjoyed the book but the sequencing of chapters was off. Made it confusing to find your place

Descriptions and feelings of those Jews captured

This book is about a young man and his experiences as a German Jew in the war. This isn’t my normal genre, but something about the description drew me in. I loved Corrie Ten Booms “The Hiding Place” and I was hoping it would be similar. It wasn’t, but it was SO good! The author wrote a story, but used actual historical events in the story. I debated reading it as I don’t like the gory details of war. He alluded to the dangers and things happening to the Jews, but never was it offensive. The book drew me in and I could hardly put it down. The author had a little blurb at the end where he told us which characters and situations were historical. Very interesting! The narrator in the audio book was exceptional! He did the accents and inflections perfectly, and spoke clearly. He has a voice that was easy to listen to and changed voices for different characters. I’m going to look for more books by this author and narrator.

This book is amazing!
