About this listen
"Listening to Bernadette Dunne perform the Meg Langslow audiobooks gives listeners a sense of coming home to a beloved family."—AudioFile on The Falcon Always Wings Twice (Earphones Award winner)
Listeners will flock to New York Times bestselling author Donna Andrews's next installment in the award-winning Meg Langslow series.
Meg's neighbors, the Smetkamps', have won a makeover for their old home from Marvelous Mansions, a flashy, yet dubious company, focused on making historic homes more "modern." The company already several days into its makeover of the Smetkamps' house, and tensions are running high—not only between the officious, demanding Mrs. Smetkamp and her neighbors, but also between her and the renovation crew. Meg, who is trying to keep the peace and prevent the makeover crew from trampling on every clause of the county's building code, arrives at the Smetkamps to find that Caerphilly's resident flock of feral turkeys has moved into their yard—or been relocated there by someone who wanted to cause them trouble.
The turkeys are huge, territorial, cranky and aggressive--and impossible to move! Meg does what she can to calm down the irate neighbors and help the makeover crew make progress in spite of the turkeys. She comes up with a plan to gather a group of turkey wranglers to snatch them early in the morning. But when they arrive, they find the body of Mrs. Smetkamp in her backyard. Someone stabbed her, and then tried to make it look as if she was attacked by one of the turkeys, but Meg, the Chief, and the Sheriff are not fooled. Together, they must figure out what really happened to Mrs. Smetkamp...and what to do with all these turkeys!

There’s a literary niche for all tastes including those who think that either Agatha Christie wasn’t funny enough or that PG Wodehouse didn’t feature anywhere near as many baffling murders as he could have. The Case of the Canterfell Codicil is a classic, cozy, locked-room mystery written in the style of an homage to PG Wodehouse.

Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

He’s never taken other people half as seriously as they take themselves, which is the first of his mistakes. The second is a new project: opportunistic and precisely calibrated to rake in a fortune.

Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. Best Read
I love these stories. This is the best one yet. I was sad to finish this book. I love the fact the murder is a part of the bigger story and the way life is interlaced. The humor was great. I laughed out loud in places.

I couldn't wait to read this one even though I've preordered the audio! Pub Date 06 Aug 2024
If you're new to this series, don't pass it up. Each one can easily be enjoyed as a stand alone, but you'll want to find out why there are so many Pomeranians (and some of them are sniffer dogs!) Meg comes from a large family but only a few of them are highlighted in this episode. There's nasty neighbors, lots of feral turkeys causing a mess, a work crew without a clue, a film manager who isn't what he says he is, and a whole lot more. Loved it!
This cannot be an unbiased review because I reread some of them (the print copies walk away so now I have them in audio) and wait with bated breath for each new one.
I requested and received a temporary EARC from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Great cozy mystery!
Donna Andrews is one of my favorite authors, and I often find myself in the world of her wonderful characters. There’s always a bird connection, and a good mystery to be solved.

Loved it
Donna Andrews has crafted another great addition to her Meg Langslow series. All the usual characters are present with a few new ones added in for more fun.
Ms Andrews always makes me laugh until I have tears pouring out of my eyes. The mystery was engaging and keep my guessing until the end.
Bernadette Dunne, as always, gave a standout performance as she breathed life into the storyline and gave each character their own distinct voice.
The only negative thing I can say is that the book ended and now I have to wait a year to get more of this wonderful story.
I highly recommend this book/audiobook to cozy mystery fans.

Enjoyable read
I enjoy reading Ms. Andrews books. I look forward twice a year to getting them. This one was more mystery. I think, but I enjoyed it. I like her sense of humor and the way she integrates her mystery with humor. A lot of times you get mysteries that are all mysteries or humorous books, that are just humorous. It’s nice to have a blend book. That’ll make you smile when you read it.

Another great addition to the series
This story is another well-written, fun mystery in the series. Listening to the excellent narration by Bernadette Dunne is like visiting old friends again. There was a little less interaction with her husband and kids, as well as with the quirky extended family, which I missed. Maybe they will be more involved in the next book. Regardless, it is a highly enjoyable story, especially with the perfect narration.

Took a bit longer to figure out the mystery
missed the family, author seems to be making the main character more and more like an absentee parent in the last few books. Miss the family interaction from before.

OK entry to the Meg Langslow series
More a story of incidents than a mystery with the building of clues to deduce the solution.
