About this listen

Nonny Frett understands the meanings of "rock" and "hard place" better than any woman ever born. She's got two mothers, "one deaf-blind and the other four baby steps from flat crazy". She's got two men: her husband, who's easing out the back door; and her best friend, who's laying siege to her heart in her front yard. She has a job that holds her in the city, and she's addicted to a little girl who's stuck deep in the country. To top it off, she has two families: the Fretts, who stole her and raised her right; and the Crabtrees, who lost her and can't forget that they've been done wrong.

In Between, Georgia, population 90, a feud that began the night Nonny was born is escalating, and a random act of violence will set the torch to a 30-year-old stash of highly flammable secrets. This might be just what the town needs, if only Nonny wasn't sitting in the middle of it.

Critic reviews

"Plenty of Southern sass and rueful, charming confidences make this a theatrical and well-paced Southern family drama." (Publishers Weekly)

I don't usually like books narrated in a southern accent, but I can't imagine this book being read by anyone other than the author. I looked forward to every time I had a chance to listen and didn't want the book to end. The characters were quirky, and not all likeable, but always interesting. Flawed yet somehow loveable. The story line had enough twists to keep it interesting. I hate to go to the gym and only go so I can listen to a book; this one got me there more often than any other in a long, long time!

Great listen!

I wanted more of this author after listening to "A Grown Up Kind of Pretty. For whatever reason "Between" was the last one chosen. As one of her earlier books it's too bad I didn't get it first. Then they would have just kept getting better. I was a little bored with this one. There just wasn't the mystery and suspense I found in the others but I guess it wasn't intended to be that kind of book. It's always great to hear this author narrate. Love her voice and the way she reads. I'll go back and listen to "A Grown Up Kind of Pretty" and "God's in Alabama" over and over but I doubt I'll hear this one again.

A little dull for Joshilyn Jackson

What did you love best about Between, Georgia?

I loved the relationship between Stacia and her daughter. Her determination to take in a child not born to her but "was hers" melted my heart.

What other book might you compare Between, Georgia to and why?

The Girl Who Stopped Swimming. The characters are almost the same... where Bet Clemmons comes from the wrong side of the tracks and in this book the cab trees are the same kind.

What does Joshilyn Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings a different personality to each character that I wouldnt have imagined for myself.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

OH most definitely!

Any additional comments?

Is there such thing as comedic drama?

WOW, this book was great! Mystery, southern culture, and a reader who charms you to death. What more could be required or even wanted. I loved Gods of Alabama, but this carries even further. If you want a book that entertains and makes you wonder wher it is going next, grab this title. You will not be disappointed.

A MUST listen!

Enjoyable storyline with family connections and love interests. I would classify this as a good "Chick Flick". Good to listen to or read on vacation or in the car. Glad I purchased it.

I bought this one because I loved God's In Alabama, but I did not really like this one. Never picked up for me and I just wasn't into it.

Rare combination of an interesting, unique story. Terrific narration by the author-a very rare feat in the world of audiobooks! The descriptive writing was not overdone, and the analagies were spot-on.
