About this listen

An inspiring tale of a fourth grader who fights back when her favorite book is banned from the school library - by starting her own illegal locker library.

It all started the day Amy Anne Ollinger tried to check out her favorite book in the whole world, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, from the school library. That's when Mrs. Jones, the librarian, told her the bad news: her favorite book was banned, all because a classmate's mom thought the book wasn't appropriate for kids to read.

Amy Anne decides to fight back by starting a secret banned books library out of her locker. Soon, she finds herself on the front line of an unexpected battle over book banning, censorship, and who has the right to decide what she and her fellow students can read.

Reminiscent of the classic novel Frindle by Andrew Clements for its inspiring message, Alan Gratz's Ban This Book is a love letter to the written word and its power to give kids a voice.

Ban This Book

I loved this book. My teacher was reading it in class and I liked it so I wanted to borrow it from
the library. It wasn't available, so I downloaded the audiobook. It really set an example for me
to speak up and do the right thing which sometimes can also be wrong.

Ban This Book

I admired the main character's spunk and only hope if I'm ever in the same situation, that I'll fight just as hard! I would recommend the audio version of this book because the narration is well done and added something special to the story.

Timing could not have been better

I read this book on recommendation of my grade school aged niece. The wonderful treatment of the complex issues around book banning is perfectly woven into a story that children can relate to and enjoy

Inappropriate for kids

Unbelievable this was put on the kids reading list!!!! This is straight democrat agenda of sexualizing the children and putting words in their head they don’t know yet. Parents beware, this book should be avoided!

A great tale of censorship.

I liked this book. The main character was a bookworm, like me. It was so funny

Perfection

The narrator Bahni Turpin read with the integrity and voice this book deserves. My students couldn’t wait to read this book. It was a great introduction to the issues of censorship and First Amendment rights. It inspired multiple written responses and activities.

wonderful book!

Great story, with some interesting twists. The reader did a wonderful job. There's nothing like people working together to right a wrong. I'm older than the target age for this book, but I ignore that. I've read some wonderful books in all "age grouos." This is one of them.

LOVED IT!!!

I loved this book so much! I stayed up to listen to it and I’m 30 years old 🤣 This book is traveling like wild fire around my classroom and now students are starting to ask for some of the books listed in here. I just loved it!

Amazing book!

My daughters and I enjoy the book very much!!! A great book to encourage girls to voice their opinion and stand up for what is right and advocate from themselves.
