Publisher's summary

One young boy is the key to the universe.

On the brink of a new age, the human race leaps forward into the evolutionary void, changing the course of history forever.

For young Bobbie Cagle, the normal difficulties of growing up are overshadowed by his unique condition. Bobbie's inability to communicate normally is misdiagnosed for years as autism, and masks the great part in history he is destined to play. His unique ability to create beautiful works of art is just the tip of the iceberg. Coveted by those who would use him for their own purpose, Bobbie and his mother flee their home out of desperation. In the course of their escape, the truth behind Bobbie's gift and the effects it may have on the planet begin to reveal themselves, as the future of humanity hangs in the balance.

"It makes more sense to look at the brain as a filter, a sort of reducing valve that 'dumbs down' consciousness, which is preexisting and exists outside our physical universe. In fact, consciousness gets dumbed down to almost a trickle, which is necessary in the here and now in our lives surviving, in the Darwinian sense, on this planet." (Eben Alexander, MD, from Science of Mind interview)

There are different "levels" of consciousness—the consciousness of a tree; the awareness of an animal like a dog, cat, or dolphin; the consciousness of human beings. And yet, it's all evolving, and in a not-too-distant future, human beings will take a new leap in consciousness.

poor writing sublimely paced

A fascinating study. the book is weak. it is written at the 5th grade level with clunkers like "I noticed the flashlight was noticeably dimmer" (how did that get past an editor?). the characters are comically flat. the narrator covers many of the characters well, but some are terrible. as with the writing, a number of mispronunciations seemed to have slipped through the editing process.
Despite all that, the pacing was superb. driving home after a long day, tired and worried about falling asleep, the story kept my attention the whole way. it's as if the author plugged it into a formula for how to pace events laced with a few magic words of interest to keep the listener hanging on. either a great formula or an excellent ***intuitive sense***

chapters are cutting off suddenly

I'm trying to look for a way to report this issue but can't seem to find any so I guess I'll put it in a review. I'm enjoying the story so far, except that chapters will randomly cut off mid sentence oftentimes and I don't know what's going on. I'm hoping someone can reach out to me about fixing this issue. I'm going to be very disappointed if I paid $13 for book it's basically unlistenable.
