About this listen

Violet Winters once had it all but lost it when her husband was murdered by a criminal madman. During a cold winter night Violet has to leave her warm bed to tell her neighbor to turn the music down. And that's when she meets sinister, scarred, scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan. She wants to deny it, but Violet can't beat back the hunger she feels for Joe so she gives in again and again. Feeling it himself, Joe feeds Vi's hunger, breaking his own rules to keep her in his bed. Even though Violet had only one man in her life, she's sure Joe is giving her the signals and Vi decides she's ready to take a second chance at life and, maybe, love. But Violet doesn't know the dark secrets in Joe's past, secrets so soul-wrenching, they've drained him dry. With nothing left to give, Joe's determined to live his life alone and he breaks Violet's heart. Crushed by Joe's betrayal, Violet comes to terms with the fact that, no matter what signals he gave, Joe was not theirs to win. But Violet's husband's murderer is obsessed with her and heartbreak again haunts the door of the Winters home. When it does Joe is forced to face the knowledge that he can't fight Violet's pull, she's under his skin and filled him full to bursting. Joe needs to win her back and put his life on the line to keep Violet safe. But, having had it all once, can Violet endure losing Joe?

Another solid book by Kristen Ashley.

So when I first downloaded this book, I was a little shocked that it was over 23 hours. I put off listening to it because usually I prefer a shorter story. I hate when things get dragged out; however this story kept my interest the whole book. There wasn't a lot of drawn out scenarios, the book kept moving and it was kind of like it's 2 books in one. If you are looking for a lengthy listen that isn't too intense but definitely an attention-keeper, then this is a great book. I also really enjoyed Olivia Porters narration. PS- I love Joe. He's the epitome of hot alpha!!

Story so sweet and good - worth it and worth ignoring the narrator!

I loved the story of Joe and Violet. Characters well-developed all around and great story. However, the narrator's performance was not worthy of their story and really took away from it. She was monitone most of the time and had long unnatural pauses as she read. BUT, having said that, I got used to it and story was so compelling I was so glad I stuck with it. She even improved a bit towards the end of the book!
Joe Callahan is quite a man!

Proof that narrators can make or break a story

I own almost every Kristen Ashley audio book out there because she's an amazing storyteller. The stry itself was really good but the narration was absolutely PAINFUL!

The narrator had a 2 second pause after every sentence, sometimes more. I actually found myself looking at my phone to see if something was wrong with the phone.

I also completely agree with other reviews about the serious lack of variations in the narrator's voice between characters. I had trouble following with who was saying what in conversations because of it. Joe and his woman's 13 daughter should NOT sound the same.

This is also the first book I've listened to where I could actually hear the narrator audibly swallow...and I mean loudly AND continuously.

If you can get your hands on a hard copy it would be totally worth it.

Joe?

The storyline was good but there were things that annoyed me!!
Instead of the characters developing, it’s like they switched roles. Almost as if the male lead needed the female lead to have a tragedy in order for him to relate to her. Instead of expressing how she feels all she said was Joe over and over and over again. Yes sometimes all you need to say is the persons name and they get what you mean but this was too much. She starts to date him and she forgets how to be a mother? The man without a relationship for years and no children is suddenly an expert? she now has no clue what’s best for her children and needs him to direct her? I would never date a man that calls me buddy, as if he’s trying to keep me in the friend zone. Buddy is not a cute pet name.

** SPOILER **

Mike deserved better, he deserved honesty. She became a people pleaser. She didn’t know how to just say no and walk away. The minute anyone gave her a little affection she decided to continue with the relationship!!

Annoying narrator.

Love the story, but the narrator ruins it for me. Weird pauses and muffled laughing. It got irritating, enough to where your distracted from the story. Shame.

One of the Best Kristen Ashley book yet.....

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator wasn't very good. Would've been one of the best audio books - if they would've had a better narrator. Thankfully the story was so good I was able to over look the poor narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This story made me laugh, cry and smile. This was a long audio - and I was barely able to stop listening. Almost listen straight through to the end....very hard to stop for work or sleep.

Any additional comments?

The relationship between the 2 daughters and Joe was incredible. This is a must listen and hoping that the rest of this series is as awesome as this one was.

Great story, narrator...meh

As always Kristen Ashley tells a lovely story-this time our protagonists have experienced loss. How can they overcome this to live happy lives?

Olivia Porter is not one of my favorite narrators mainly due to the fact that she cannot do voices. I would rather she kept her tone even. She also has a habit of drawing in breathe audibly which can become irritating.

However.....still worth the credit for a wonderfully descriptive romance.
