Publisher's summary

All hail the new Dragon Queen of Frost!

Having just dealt with the pesky Dragon of Frost, Arc declares herself the new ruler of the dragons to snuff all her problems at the core and seek the entrance to the Forgotten Places, the place where the corruption resides, all to grow stronger.

Except, her position as a ruler isn't as stable as it first seems, after all, dragons are solitary beings that rule themselves, apex predators of old that hardly see change—from the Dragon of Water having his own schemes over Draliz to the Dragon of Wind refusing to acknowledge her as the new dragon ruler.

And that isn't the end of the problems, the Hero of Flames appears with his own designs, threatening something she holds precious. Other heroes make their move, some with force, and some with more subtle means, but they all desire the same thing:

To rule over Draliz—the country Arc wants and calls home.

With so many people vying over the position of ruler of Draliz, and Arc at the center of it all, she is given two choices:

Run and save herself from this mess or fight.

And Arc has already made her choice.

Fight for the new life she has built.

Join Arc as she explores the world of Arlas, a place dominated by the same system that summoned her in the first place, a world with classes, levels, and magic. Watch her explore the world and take on terrifying foes with her ice abilities that can freeze anything. This isekai series features a badass overpowered main character and intriguing worldbuilding. Arc's story has great character moments and exciting and satisfying battles with monsters and other heroes alike. Join her as she adventures in the world of Arlas, enjoying the battles that come her way.

Fun, but could be better

I like the world, and most of the characters. Arc is a bit annoying, but her emotional issues can make it difficult to enjoy some of the story, but I get that it's one of the main devices used to make the story happen, I just think it's used a bit too much. It should be less focused on, or if that's a main plot point it should be addressed rather than everyone just shrugging and avoiding it. Another plot device that is used a little too much is the arrogant powerful individual being flabbergasted when someone they've never heard of kicks their ass. I can believe that a few people might be like this, but I doubt many active combatants would behave this way, or they would have died a long time ago.

The narrator is mostly fine, but her angry talking through a clenched jaw voice, and her old guy voice are a little irritating. The first would be a problem, but they way she narrates it she thinks that's how Arc speaks a lot.

The writing is mostly fine, but sometimes it's a bit inconsistent with what side characters know, and when.

Would rather give it a 3.5, but I'll stay at a 4 since I can't.

More Dragons, Heroes and Angst

Overall I enjoy the second volume and appreciate the many tapestry created of future threat and romance that does make me excited for the future (or be left disappointed, who knows).

That being said while there many great things about the second volume, such as Arc past, the fighting, the world and the dragons being delightful, there also lots of angst. Arc is just a bit too angsty in this volume which can put off many reader away, and was a bit annoying at times. It is explained that how she is without her best friend, how she got more anti-social from the training and her past still affecting her. The problem is that going a bit too far and admitting it has no weight when done over and over again with no sign of trying to change. I hope just like many set up in the story, that they Arc does have an actual character growth instead of just leveling up.

That being said, it is still fun, and the noble best friend character arc made her more likable. More world exploring and fun op moment, fights and some geniuene sweet moment. Also rooting for Arc x Mallie the shadow of Dragon personally. Can't wait for volume 3, but just less angst. I usually don't mind it, but yeah she was a bit unlikable at times.
