About this listen

Apollo is the behind-the-scenes story of an epic achievement. Based on exhaustive research that included many exclusive interviews, Apollo tells how America went from a standing start to a landing on the moon at a speed that now seems impossible. It describes the unprecedented engineering challenges that had to be overcome to create the mammoth Saturn V and the facilities to launch it. It takes you onto the gantries at Cape Canaveral and behind the consoles of Houston's Mission Control as it relives the tragedy of the fire on Apollo 1, the first descent to the lunar surface, and the rescue of Apollo 13.

A story of daring bordering on recklessness on the ground and life-and-death decisions made in seconds during the flights, Apollo captures the drama of humans leaving Earth for the first time.

A truly stellar history of the Apollllo program

This is a history of the people who made the the moon landings happen. While history will remember the moon walk there were many who prepared the path and watched over the men while they took their strole.
The book named names of many and what they did but not all. It would have taken a book several times this to do that . But they would still have missed many.
My father, the late, Harry L. Derflinger, Jr. was in charge of part of the design, development, and testing of.the second stage of the Saturn rocket at Seal Beach Ca, So I had a personal interest in the events of this book.

Incredible!

The Apollo program, along with Mercury and Gemini before it, prove that with the right people and enough money, anything that can be imagined can be accomplished. The world would be a very different place without the people at NASA.

Simply Incredible!

An amazing story, a moving tribute to many who toiled away, behind the scenes and often in obscurity, to turn Kennedy’s dream of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth into truth. Wonderful narration and moving prose. It is, without a doubt, one of the very best books of all time on an American era of discovery and uncommon unity in a common mission, notions so totally foreign to the America of today. Do not miss this read!

Didn't want to stop listening

Fascinating story about the challenges of putting men on the moon and people who tackled it head on.

Excellently captures the time and process

The reader is excellent, dry and clear, and fits the material perfectly. The story, to call it that, follows the process of decision making and of the decision makers and the control room. The scientific benefits, the impact on the families and the country, is only touched on lightly. I thought it was very much worth listening to.

Awesome

I worked at NASA for 5 years in the 80s. The book recreates all the feelings that a NASA engineer experiences but at a much higher intensity.

Great book for anyone wanting the real history of Apollo and what it took to land a man in the moon.

Great insight into the Apollo programme

A thoroughly enjoyable recounting of the Apollo programme, from the early 60's through to the final Apolo flight, Apollo 17
