About this listen

Alex Keener has lived all of his 16 years underground in US Bunker 108. When he goes on his first recon into the Wasteland, he will find out exactly why.

Outside, Alex discovers a harsh landscape twisted by the impact of the meteor Ragnarok in 2030. Besides Raiders, dust storms, and cold, a new threat is evolving - the xenovirus, which twists men and animals into deadly monsters.

When the xenovirus invades Bunker 108, Alex must fight for survival. Joined by a beautiful ex-Raider and an idealistic scientist, Alex discovers that he and his friends might be the only ones standing between the world and a second apocalypse.

Not enough monsters for me

The beginning of story put me in the mindframe of the silo book series. So I found it pretty enjoyable. I was expecting more monster than was actually portrayed in this book. I didn’t realize it was a four book series, so there will probably have more of them later on down The line. This is more of a survival/finding out where the virus came from story than the story of the monsters themselves, which is what I was hoping for.

Slow Start But picks up

Narration is good. Story is slightly predictable and ending leaves you hanging. I will probably listen to book 2 if it doesn't take long to become available.

Excellent book, if you like post-apocalyptic books

I am a HUGE fan of the Fallout games and this book was almost identical to it. The narrator did a good job, my only issue was with his deep breaths at the end of a lot of the sentences. Overall I would recommend this book. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

A good dystopian audiobook

Whenever I finish an audiobook and then read reviews of the written copy where there are complaints about grammar and editing it is often the case the voice actor of the audio version has corrected those issues. That's what happened with "Apocalypse." I didn't notice any of the writing or editing problems mentioned in reviews of the written copy because my copy was an Audible freebie and the actor read it without the problems. Hence, I liked this book and gave it five stars. However, the voice actor sounded smarmy and it took a long time to get used to him.

This story is so similar to Fallout that I consulted an AI chatbot to see whether this book is credited with influencing Fallout. I was told it only influenced Fallout in that Apocalypse and Fallout share dystopian tropes. I find that hard to believe. This book was published prior to Fallout, at least the streaming series, and the two share many, many identical situations. So many, in fact, that one of them has to be a copyright violation of the other. That aside, I love the Fallout series and enjoyed reading this very similar book.

Enjoyable, but short.

I enjoyed the book. It was better than I expected. I just wish it was longer. Before I continue to listen I'm just going to wait until the books are on sale. I'd rather not waste money on books that are so short. Other than that I liked it.

Seemed like youth fiction

The concept was good but it seemed like it was young adult fiction. Author used the word "surprisingly" and similar adverbs a lot which got a little old. A solid four stars.
