Publisher's summary

Anne Shirley has left Redmond College behind to begin a new job and a new chapter of her life away from Green Gables. Now she faces a new challenge: the Pringles. They're known as the royal family of Summerside - and they quickly let Anne know she is not the person they wanted to be principal of Summerside High School.

But as she settles into the cozy tower room at Windy Poplars, Anne finds she also has great allies: the widows Aunt Kate and Aunt Chatty and in their irrepressible housekeeper, Rebecca Dew, are on her side. As Anne learns Summerside's strangest secrets, winning the support of the prickly Pringles becomes only the first of her triumphs.

Just What I Needed!

I have wanted this book in audio format for years. I was so excited to see that it had come available. The book, of course, is wonderful! LM Montgomery can do no wrong. The beloved characters stole my heart, as always. The narrator did a wonderful performance worthy of the book! Highly recommend.

Terrible narrator.

I love AOG, and I want the whole series. This narrator all but ruined this book for me. All the voices other than Anne's sounded either whinny or like cranky men. Please get another performer to narrate Anne of Windy Poplars.

Anne to Gilbert

What did you love best about Anne of Windy Poplars?

This was a great idea, having Anne writing to Gilbert and narrating through the letters...

What was one of the most memorable moments of Anne of Windy Poplars?

That little boy, Teddy dying...I didn't expect that...

What does Tara Ward bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Action in the voice...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both, when the young lady was afraid to get married without her Father's blessing, and Teddy dying...

Any additional comments?

Nope, but I am getting the other two movies with Elle Ballentine as Anne...I think she is fantastic in the role...

Story is slower than other books...

Love Anne and I did get through this book, but it's not my favorite of the stories. For the crazy high price, I was a little disappointed...

Loved it! Narration was very good.

Narrator has a clear, strong voice and excellent diction. She also did a very good job switching between characters. Good variety in characters voices and affects without any vocal "strangeness" ( which I find very distracting and unfortunately common in audiobooks).

Hard to get through the narration at times

If you like the first three in the series you’ll enjoy this book too, though Anne’s character seems a little more static. She doesn’t appear to be growing and maturing quite so much at this stage of life — just improving the lives of those she meets.

I’m sad to say I am really having a hard time with the narration though. A good narrator has some subtle shifts in voices so different character’s dialogue can be easily detected. This takes the voices to an extreme, cartoonish level. Some women unfairly sound like linebackers as other reviewers have put it, others sound cloyingly childlike. I think these major swings from voice to voice are really distracting and unfair to the characters. I look forward to resuming the Barbara Caruso narration after this.

Good story, difficult narrator

Listened to as many Megan Follows narrations as possible, but there were none (and no other options) for Windy Poplars. The voices didn’t really ring true of what I imagined real people would sound like. Still, the story made a road trip go by quickly and enjoyably.
