Acerca de esta escucha

The award-winning author returns to Samaria in this richly romantic tale that begins where Archangel left off. In that time, the women who craved the attention of angels were known as angel-seekers, a term used with awe by some - and scorn by others.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Shinn smoothly blends the romantic sensibility of yesteryear with the feminism of today, all in a richly textured landscape." (Publishers Weekly)
"A fascinating world built upon a complex system of technology and faith." (Library Journal)
"Shinn's new novel of Samaria, where angels and humans cohabit, is set in the time of rebuilding after the chaos of former archangel Raphael's fall and is told through the intertwining stories of the mortals Elizabeth and Rebekah and the angel Obadiah. Elizabeth, forced by circumstances to be a servant in her cousin's house, leaves abruptly for the new community of Cedar Hills, where she hopes to take an angel lover. Rebekah, a young Jansai woman, is dissatisfied with her life but sees no alternatives to it. Obadiah is sent by Gabriel to live in Cedar Hills and negotiate with the Jansai over issues surrounding the now-forbidden enslavement of the Elori tribes....a solid read." (Booklist)

Though the 5th book in the Samaria saga, I got it as my second as this is the sequel to Archangel. I suggest you do so. More of a romance than a fantasy novel but still well written.

Read as book 2

Though I had not read the previous 4 books in this series, the story was well put together and wholly engaging on its own merits. Sharon Shinn put together a coherent world with very nicely developed characters. I'm so impressed that I'm going to start at the beginning of the series. Maybe by the time I'm done with the first 4 books, the 6th in the series will be written. I recommend this book as good story telling.

Entertainingly different slant on angels

Favorite book in the entire series! Best love story and characters! I recommend to all!

Favorite book in the entire the series!

This book is probably my second favorite of this series as it doesn't get mired in the not so well thought out scientific concepts found in the other books. It's a pure and enjoyable romantic tale set in Samaria with second coming of age tale woven through. That said, I find the ending far too abrupt. It could have used a couple more chapters to put a more satisfying cap on Obadiah and Rebbeca's story.

Decent but ending dissatisfying

I love the Samaria series - the The the narrator is awesome and I love that you use the same one . I’ve read the books and chose this series while I’m doing chores and driving around town. Sharon Shinn is a great writer

Angel seeker

Angel-Seeker is listed as book 5 in the series, but takes place after book 1, chronologically. It even has appearances by Gabriel, Rachel, and Naomi.
There are two storylines running through this book - Obadiah and Rebekah; and second, Elizabeth and Rufus.
I’ve read 3-1/2 stories in the world of Shinn’s Archangels, and this is the one that moved me the least. I was happy that Obadiah got his own story. It’s not the story, but Rebekah’s cultural background - Jansai - that shuts me down. I feel vehemently about ANY practice where another human being is valued as less. I DO appreciate the value of family expressed in the story, specifically between Rebekah and her brothers. Most of all, I value freedom of expression as a right for all to use to learn their lessons in life. Each life is precious and should be encouraged to its’ fullest. I will leave it at that.
Still, the story is well written.
The narration is good.

Read Second in Series

cried when Naomi took in Elizabeth and Ruffus. and cried when Rebecca was found out and then stoned. and again when Rebeccas brother cried both times at being upset over Martha death and the relief he felt when obadia told him that his sister was still alive.
I have listened to all the simaria books and i think it was read by the same narrator and she did awesome.

story was amazing I cried a lot & loved every part

This is a good addition to the series. Not only did I enjoy the love story but I really was drawn to the narrating for the lead female. It put a smile on my face and made my day. I couldn't wait to hear her again. This is more of a romance than fantasy however it is worth the read. I wonder if we will hear from these characters in the next book in the series.

Enjoyable and a fun listen!
