About this listen

After Maria Mast's abusive ex-boyfriend is arrested for being involved in sex trafficking and modern-day slavery, she thinks she and her son, Carter, can safely return to her Amish community.

But the danger has only just begun. Someone begins stalking her, and they want blood and revenge.

Agent Derek Turner of Covert Police Detectives Unit is assigned as her bodyguard. From the moment they meet in a bank robbery where she saves a little girl's life, he is fascinated by her. When Maria returns home to her former Amish community in Unity, Maine, Derek goes with her as her undercover bodyguard and tries to blend in with the other Amish men.

For him, it's personal. He's determined to arrest her stalker and shut down the sex-trafficking ring he believes may have killed his late wife four years ago.

The Amish way of life and their solid faith draws Derek in. He hasn't even prayed ever since his wife died, but living among the Amish makes him long for a stronger relationship with God.

Maria's secretive eyes, painful past, and cautious demeanor intrigue him. As the human-trafficking ring begins to target the Amish community, Derek wonders if the distraction of her will cost him his career...and Maria's life.

This was a decent book. Not as good as the first in the series but still worth the read.

I truly enjoyed the story line and the characters. The story moved at a fast pace and kept me involved until the very last words.

It would have been much more realistic if they would have used a male narrator for the parts the men spoke. This female narrator voice was much to high even when she was speaking a male's part and it just didn't fit in with the characters. when she was speaking the Captain's part and trying to be gruff, it just didn't work. At times she spoke to fast when trying to convey urgency and it made the female narrator's voice have a "gravelly" tone to it which didn't fit the scenario. She did a fine job with the women's voices. I believe she would do a fantastic job narrating children's books.

The book itself was excellent and I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
