About this listen

Do you think you have heard about the most haunted places in America?

Over the past five years, the interest in the paranormal has decidedly come to the forefront. People flock to locations who wish to have experiences of their own and delve into the exciting, quizzical and frightening world of those who have passed on.

When speaking about haunted places there are more than a few that are surely recognizable to most people. However, for the avid ghost teller or hunter these long told tales have almost lost their ebullience and the romance is long gone.

Discovering new haunts are like diamonds in the rough. Unchartered ghost stories and research are the crème de la crème for anyone who devours such tales.

In this audiobook, author and ghost hunter Sarah Ashley will take you on a new adventure of mysterious happenings, strange sights, horrific details of torture and torment and share with you some truly startling evidence from some of the most haunted, yet less glamorized locations across the United States.

Sarah Ashley, never a disappointment!

Would you consider the audio edition of America's Secret Hauntings to be better than the print version?

No, I think it all depends on the listener. I enjoy being read to because I work in a factory, it keeps my mind at ease as my hands work.

What was one of the most memorable moments of America's Secret Hauntings?

All the narrator does a spectacular job. Sarah Ashley always goes into the best detail. She has a way of writing that makes you feel *like she is your friend*. My Favourite moment was how every story she phrases in one way or another.... * Come along with us * before we know its about to get awesome!

Which scene was your favorite?

I love anything about the axe murder house! I love how she explained who families night prior to the murder, it really personalized them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wish it would have gone on forever! I often don't purchase books under 6/8 hours so i have a whole shift of listening. But she was highly recommended.

Any additional comments?

I just want to leave saying this is not a waste of credit or money. I have pushed this book on many people and hope you love it as much as I did!

Fun afternoon that didn't cause too many scares but is still informative

This was a fun book to listen to. Especially if you have an interest in the paranormal in these areas. I have seen many of these sites reviewed on different paranormal shows. And so it was nice to see a different point of view. I would recommend this book to anybody looking for just a fun afternoon read.

This was terrible! Can I give it less than one star like -100stars

I thought that this book was going to be a good one as I am always looking for a new haunting to explore. I was especially excited that Franklin Castle in Cleveland was pictured. When that specific chapter was read, it was very clear to me that not only was this a story of lies and hearsay but that Ms. Ashley hadn't even attempted to do ANY research. How do I know? In that specific chapter she states that there is no one left in the family that basically the whole family tree was obliterated. Im here to tell you that is very wrong as I am descended from that family. My grandmother was a Tiedemann and Hannes was her uncle! Who as she remembers was a very nice and kind man. She also makes it sound as if he molested his children. Easy to do when you haven't spoken to anyone.
As far as the Narrator, she pronounces names wrong, why wouldn't you make sure as a narrator that unfamiliar or odd names are pronounced correctly? Isn't that your job? It is pronounced, Haaahns not Hanes like the underwear, and Teedamin not Tideman! After that chapter I was questioning all of of Ms. Ashley's research. This book is in my opinion junk!

Really don't like it

Would you try another book from Sarah Ashley and/or Elizabeth J. Taylor?

Not likely

What was most disappointing about Sarah Ashley’s story?

Reads like tourist brochures, or bad campfire stories

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Elizabeth J. Taylor?

I doubt it would have helped.

What character would you cut from America's Secret Hauntings?

Not really the issue.

"macabre"

The performance of this book is probably what bothered me the most. It jolts me from the story when certain (and in this instance, pivotal) words are mispronounced i.e. macabre. The reader's accent switches back and forth from very proper and almost mechanical vaguely british to home spun southern.
The book itself, as some other readers have said, is more a tourist guide than ghost story, some locations have tour types and times included. Further the book seems to rely heavily on television shows as "evidence" of haunting. It seems bizarre to me to read a book rehashing tv shows. Some of the locations were interesting, but most of the stories had a big lead up with little pay off. I frequently zoned out while listening because a fair bit of the book was just boring.
