Publisher's summary

A hilarious and biting memoir from the actor, comedian, and Saturday Night Live alumnus.

David Spade is best known for his harsh "Hollywood Minute" sketches on SNL, his starring roles in movies like Tommy Boy and Joe Dirt, and his seven-year stint as Dennis Finch on the series Just Shoot Me. Now, with a wit as dry as the weather in his home state of Arizona, the "comic brat extraordinaire" delivers a memoir.

Spade takes fans back to his childhood as a wannabe cool younger brother and recounts his excruciating road tour to fame - when he was regularly mistaken for a 14-year-old. He dishes about his time on SNL during the beloved Rock/Sandler/Farley era of the 1990s and brags about the ridiculous perks that fame has brought into his life, including a crazy assistant who attacked him while he was sleeping, being threatened on the street in Beverly Hills by Eddie Murphy, and being one of the shortest guys at the Playboy mansion (the views weren't bad).

Sometimes dirty, sometimes just plain silly, David Spade reminds us what made him one of our favorite funny people.

Surprisingly good

I was surprised at what a great story this was, and how much I enjoyed David Spade's telling of it - I'm not even a fan of his. However, I enjoyed his style or writing and presentation. Definitely worth the time.

Funny but incomplete

It was entertaining and definitely lol funny. However it was mostly about his childhood and snl. Nothing about the other TV shows or his later movies. He talked a lot about making Tommy Boy, but the other movies don't get the same treatment. It was great how he addressed the events that made it into the tabloids.

100% Interesting

David Spade’s autobiography is a fascinating insiders look at creating a career in comedy from scratch. I found myself laughing out loud at some of his asides and funny sound effects. Great to have him as the reader. Spade also corners the market on snarky but is self-aware enough to offer an honest retelling of the highs and lows of his life, particularly his poignant recounting of his experiences with Chris Farley and a harrowing attack by a personal assistant—quite riveting. Indeed a book that is 100% interesting.

Pretty great. Fun book and interesting.

My only issue is it seemed to cut short. David goes into great detail about his life and career and stops at what seems to be at least 19 years ago. Would have like to have heard more and plans thoughts on his future. Otherwise...pretty great.

Like, Totally Interesting!

Nothing better than hearing his tales from his own mouth! I'm betting there will be another book in the future, and I'd pre-order if I could! Never been an über fan of David Spade the actor, but I am a fangirl of David Spade, the person!

Sometimes Interesting

What made the experience of listening to Almost Interesting the most enjoyable?

I liked hearing Spade's stories about SNL, Tommy Boy and his standup career. The stories about his youth were also interesting. He has an entertaining comic voice and lots of great anecdotes. It might not be interesting for a reader who isn't in to SNL or standup, but I found it engaging.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's a memoir, so Spade is the main character. Hearing about other SNL actors, specifically Chris Farley, was also a treat.

Which scene was your favorite?

The story about his assistant Skippy attacking him was riveting. What a mess.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Almost interesting.

Any additional comments?

If you think this sounds interesting, it probably will be. It won't win Spade any new fans, but should satisfy those who want to learn more about him.
