A REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK

“An effervescent debut chock full of Austenian nods. Swoonworthy!”—Sarah McCoy, New York Times bestselling author of Mustique Island

“All That Life Can Afford is about love, ambition, and the cost of belonging, and I cannot stop thinking about it.”—Reese Witherspoon

A young American woman navigates class, lies, and love amid London’s jet-set elite.

I would arrive, blank like a sheet of notebook paper, and write myself new.

Anna first fell in love with London at her hometown library—its Jane Austen balls a far cry from her life of food stamps and hand-me-downs. But when she finally arrives after college, the real London is a moldy flat and the same paycheck-to-paycheck grind—that fairy-tale life still out of reach.

Then Anna meets the Wilders, who fly her to Saint-Tropez to tutor their teenage daughter. Swept up by the sphinxlike elder sister, Anna soon finds herself plunged into a heady whirlpool of parties and excess, a place where confidence is a birthright. There she meets two handsome young men—one who wants to whisk her into his world in a chauffeured car, the other who sees through Anna’s struggle to outrun her past. It’s like she’s stepped into the pages of a glittering new novel, but what will it cost her to play the part?

Sparkling with intelligence and insight, All That Life Can Afford peels back the glossy layers of class and privilege, exploring what it means to create a new life for yourself that still honors the one you’ve left behind.

An E! New Spring Book

A Harper’s Bazaar Best Book Coming Out This Spring

A Town & Country Must-Read Book of Spring

An Apple Books Must Listen Audiobook of April

All That Life Can Afford absolutely sparkles. It's somehow completely romantic even as it plays with the conventions of romance; it's luminous while questioning luminousness; and it's a book with the tenderness of grief at its heart. Emily Everett is a massive talent. I can't wait to read more.”—Catherine Newman, New York Times bestselling author of Sandwich and We All Want Impossible Things

“Emily Everett’s All That Life Can Afford is a wildly entertaining fish-out-of-water story meets Cinderella fairy tale. Readers will eagerly swim along as her American heroine, Anna, navigates the tempestuous waves and powerful undercurrents of the British upper crust. An effervescent debut chock full of Austenian nods. Swoonworthy!”—Sarah McCoy, New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author of Mustique Island

"This glittering debut novel could easily be seen as a love letter to London."—Harper’s Bazaar

I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. The narrator was easy to listen to and kept my attention.

Enjoyable listen

At one point in this book, I almost returned it.
What a tragic mistake that would have been.
The book wasn't shallow, I was

ok, wow

Story was good. The narrator was a rough listen as the voice and inflection was over done.

Narrator was hard to listen to

As a Type 1 diabetic, I love the conversation about the affordability of insulin for those who must have it despite their financial circumstances.
As life-long book lover and English major, the class system of England had always intrigued me. More conversations about belonging and money— all wrapped in romance. Perfection!

Great Conversations

I’m 50 and still enjoyed this story about a young person finding her way. It was very enjoyable to listen to, I felt invested in the characters, and I enjoyed thinking about the idea of “fitting in” long after I finished the book.

Loved it

Surprised this was a Reese’s book club. Not great literature at all. Pretty standard RomCom. Narrator was really rough. Way overdone and lacking in maturity.

Better to read than listen

The narrator, from about the midpoint on, seemed intent on “acting,” which became more and more distracting. Finally with 3 hours left, I had to just stop listening altogether.

Started out ok but narration stumbled

Cute story but nothing overly profound. Definitely geared toward a young 20’s audience (which I didn’t realize going in) so everything seemed immature. What was more interesting to me was the vivid details of London, St Tropez and Portugal and I enjoyed the details about fashion too. The narrator sounded very young and when she was excited she sounded more like a 10 year old than a young woman.

Aimed at a younger audience maybe?

a book that reminds us all how life can be difficult to navigate. it teaches us lessons of the value of money or things versus the value of people.

Real life lessons

Great characters…the best of which was London. I hope someone kind—from a background similar to mine, the author’s, and the main character’s—makes this into a movie for Netflix….where are kinds of people can see it.

One of the best books of the year
