Publisher's summary
A dame with brains, moxie, and killer curves, June West isn't your average flapper. She's managed to endear herself to the son of one of the most powerful gangsters in New York, earning herself a spot in the limelight that she's always longed for.
With the infamous playboy at her side, June has become accustomed to living the high life. Lavish parties, expensive clothes, sparkling jewels, nothing is beyond her reach and her dreams of making something of herself beneath the shimmering marquee lights is finally coming true. But when her carefully woven web of lies finally catches up with her, threatening the life she's worked so hard to build, she must make an impossible choice: come clean about her past and risk losing everything, or find a way to bury her demons - once and for all.
In a city glittering with possibilities, June would do anything to keep her golden dream from turning to ashes. Even if it means turning her back on the only family she's ever known.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Story
Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?). Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder.

Too short
A good beginning but just not enough for me. The story leaves you hanging. I'm not big on stories that end abruptly and then your left with more questions then answers. Also narrative is done too much like the first book making it hard to get into this one as much. Still at end of the day it is a good beginning. Received this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

Flapper and Dutch Schultz's Son
June, a prohibition era flapper, is involved with Dutch Schultz's son, but the crime empire is crumbling as is the web of deceit she has used to construct her identity. A fun story set in an era underutilized by historic romance writers.
The hero, JD, in this book is brother to Masie, heroine of book 1. Read in series order.

Prequel to Canary Club
Any additional comments?
All That Glitters by Sherry Ficklin was an enjoyable listen right after I had 3 surgeries on my elbow to repair nerve damage, among other things. I just wanted to relax and forget about my pain and this short story prequel to the upcoming Canary Club series didn't disappoint.
All that Glitters features June West who we were introduced to in The Gilded Cage, which is previous prequel to the Canary Club that was released several months ago. June is an extremely smart flapper dancer who just wants to improve her way of life for herself and her mother. She does so by reinventing herself, not only by changing her name but her "origin" story as well. Just when she thinks she's reached the top of the social ladder with all the fame and spotlight that comes with it (she's currently dating the son of the most powerful gangster in New York and he's talking about making their arrangement more permanent), the truth is revealed about her past before she has a chance to come clean about her past with her soon to be fiancé. The rest of the story is June feeling a bit like Scarlet O'Hara at the end of Gone With Wind, with promises that tomorrow will be another day with a chance to prove her worthiness to the mob boss and his son.
Meghan Kelly was as great as ever narrating this short story. What I love about Meghan is her easy laid back narrations that let a listener get immersed in the story. I never get the feeling that I'm being read to, but rather I'm there listening to an actual conversation between two people.
In summary, I'm extremely anxious for the Canary Club to be released. I'm ready for the wait to be over so I can see what happens to Daisy (from Gilded Cage) and June!

June's story
Any additional comments?
This is June’s story which is very touching and not the gold digger that the blur makes her sound. She does have a very big secret that could not only destroy her life but the love that she has with the man she loves. Dutch is still the hateful man he has always been and if he finds out what she is hiding it might be bye bye for his son if Dutch gets to him first.
Ms. Kelly does an outstanding job with the narration in this story. She gives you a smooth clean and clear audio that pulls you in as she painting a picture you have no trouble picturing the hurt, anger and sorrow. I really enjoyed her character voices, you have no trouble knowing who is talking and what they are feeling. The confusing and excitement along with the anger comes through very clear. Her tones are even, there was no background noise or any places where the volume changed it one steady listen. Her male voices are just as good as her female ones. I had no trouble picturing and feeling June’s anger, hurt, sorrow as all she wants is being taken away along with the excitement as they play out and the disappointment when they don’t always turn out as June wants.
I was hoping to learn more about Masie and her mother but you only see her for a short time and nothing about the mother she so loves. Masie’s brother JD has been and still is a sweet heart but that could change with the flick of a tongue giving away things that are hidden. June’s whole life is built on lies and when the truth comes out it will change her life forever. Does she tell or keep things to herself?
I thought the author would go one way but she took the story down a different route which was very entertaining. I am disappointed I thought this book would pick up where the last one left off but we are still hanging on what happens to Masie and her love. I really felt sorry for June’s family even though she learned this practice from a very young age it still could not have been easy for them. If I say anymore it will give the story away. It was a good read/listen it was nice to get to know June and JD better but again you are left with tons of question and no answers. Maybe the author will bring it all in focus giving us the whole story and an ending that has closure. I was disappointed but keeping an open mind until I see where the next book takes us.

I liked this one even better than the 1st. one.
What did you love best about All That Glitters?
June and her secret
What was one of the most memorable moments of All That Glitters?
When June tells Maisey her secret.
Which character – as performed by Meghan Kelly – was your favorite?
June
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me sad and angry that the secret June carried had to be a secret and that it was considered something bad.
Any additional comments?
I think I liked book 2 in this series even better than book 1. In this book June, a showy, confident, clubgirl is in love with J.D., the mob bosses son. J.D. Is in love with her too and is risking his father's wrath by declaring that love. June is hiding a huge secret, one that in the time setting of the story could be dangerous for her and ruin her life with J.D. if it's revealed. When the truth is revealed will J.D. still love her, and will he stand up to his father to protect her? I enjoyed this one, the ending is left a little bit open and Id like more of June and J.D.'S story.
I was given an advanced audio copy of this series by the author for an honest review.

Mixed feelings
First off, I'd like to say that I really enjoy the writing and the story that's being told. However, the story once again ends before there is any conclusion at all. For me, I'd like to see the story end but keep the possibility of other stories. I'm also a bit sad that the characters that were focused on this book were different than those that were in the first. I felt that it too ended too abruptly.
I really did enjoy following June's love story. Just because someone comes from a poor life and dates someone who is rich doesn't mean the poor person is a gold digger. This book demonstrates this very well.
If you like really short stories and don't mind one that ends too soon with many unanswered questions, pick this one up. If you don't like having that many unanswered questions, wait until there are more books in the series. The book is well written, it just needed more for me.

All that Glitters
I must say I was a bit disappointed with book 2 in this series. I think I would have liked it to pick up where book 1 left off. I did not feel the closure. Book 2 picks up with her brother and his girlfriend who play a big part in book 1. Just as you are getting in to the story it ends. And you are left with even more questions. Perhaps the author plans to bring everything to full circle in an upcoming book. I do hope so!
