About this listen

On October 12, 1972, a plane carrying a team of young rugby players crashed into the remote, snow-peaked Andes. Out of the 45 original passengers and crew, only 16 made it off the mountain alive. For 10 excruciating weeks, they suffered deprivations beyond imagining, confronting nature head-on at its most furious and inhospitable. And to survive, these men and women not only had to keep their faith; they had to make an impossible decision: Should they eat the flesh of their dead friends?

A remarkable story of endurance and determination, Alive is the dramatic best-selling account of one of the most harrowing quests for survival in modern times.

Needed a better narrator

Narrator had difficulty pronouncing the Hispanic names, words, and cities. Very distracting, would have preferred hearing it from someone else. I did like the story being told simultaneously from the survivors and what was happening in the outside world.

Ripped through this faster than most books I listen to

Such a compelling story. It really tells a story at the edge of the human experience that nothing else can match

Mesmerizing, inspiring, and so sorrowful

What a story… it is hard to imagine the horror they went through, the suffering, the losses, and the daily confrontation with death. I could not put this book down. It made me very emotional, and reflect on my own life. Highly recommend…

Amazing story! I was caught up the entire time!

I absolutely loved this book. The narrator was phenomenal, and the story was extremely well-written. I never got distracted and wanted to keep listening. It's wild that this is a true story, it sounds like a Hollywood blockbuster! I'm anxious to watch the film. Please read!

Wow

I read this book when I was a teenager and I’m still inspired by it as an adult. I do wish the narrator had learned the correct way to pronounce names and places but overall I appreciated his performance.

Good Listen

Good listen overall. It did get a little long for my preference but I had no regrets on the listen. Can be pretty graphic, so for those who can't handle that sort of thing, you may steer clear.

Good story, poor narration

The story of the Andes plane crash survivors is intriguing. One would think the narrator would have taken more time to learn how to pronounce at least a few Spanish words. Jose and Juan pronounced with a strong J. Other words were unintelligible, and I had to look up other sources to learn the names of individuals or geographic places. It was incredibly distracting to what is a well-written and interesting account.
