A genderbent reimagining of the classic fairytale Alice in Wonderland…
Alister Kingsley is an eccentric, London artist who is famous for his surreal, fanciful paintings set in a land that only exists in his imagination: Wonderland.
Alister’s ‘dream girl’ Madeline Hatter wasn’t supposed to be real. But when the White Rabbit shows up at his art expo, and leads him down the rabbit hole Alister comes face-to-face with the Mad Hatter herself when she rescues him from getting barbequed by the King of Heart’s pet: the Jabberwocky.
As it turns out, Madeline got herself into a pickle, and needs Alister’s help. She has him sign a magical contract that enters him into a tournament to win her hand in marriage. Alister must complete an impossible task, participate in a Wonderland Joust where the rules aren’t exactly normal, and defeat the other contenders: Crimson the King of Hearts, Clover the White King, and the Cheshire Cat slave, Chesher.
Madeline isn’t allowed to help Alister, and Crim keeps sending assassins after his head. Will Alister be able to win the tournament so that Madeline won’t have to marry the sadistic, bloodthirsty King of Hearts?
Take the blue pill and find out…

Story
Crimson, the bloodthirsty, sadistic King of Hearts, is a villain. Or at least he’s supposed to be. That’s just how things work in Wonderland, a strange, fanciful place filled with heroes and villains who always seem to be at odds. Crim is in a very dark place after the hero Alister Kingsley wins the Wonderland joust and marries Madeline Hatter. He should have known better than to hope for true love since villains don’t get "happy endings". But there’s something fishy afoot.

Um. Um. Um. Are you reading this? If you are, I need your help. I was at a party; I was running; I fell. And get this - this is the part you'll never believe - I fell down a rabbit hole. Like Alice in those old books. Except in those books, there wasn't blood everywhere. In those books, the characters weren't all male, attractive, and interested in me.

Curioser, Curioser
This is a wonderful twist on a great classic! This is my second book by KuroKoneko Kamen and I was, again, not disappointed! I love the way the characters' genders are switched yet their roles are about the same. This is not Alice in Wonderland but Allister in Wonderland so you need to remember that not everything will be the same. This is a more grownup tale of its own and quite enjoyable. I loved hearing the twists, turns, action, adventure, humor and an all around fun time. Oh, and the ending is not something I saw coming! As another reviewer said, the ending does leave as many questions as it answers. The narration was well done. LA Johnson once again brings the story to life for the listener. How he manages to give so many characters their own voices and emotions is amazing. Loved it!

A twisted Alice in wonderland
As in the other genderbent books, the female and male characters switch roles from the original story. I love this twist. This story follows the original closely, but Alister in Wonderland is an adult twist on the child's fairytale. Steamy scenes are cleverly placed within the tale. The winks at a few different fairytales within this story were like little Easter Eggs to find and enjoy. The magical elements of the characters added to the fun. I really enjoyed the scene between the brothers. It was a turn in the story, I never saw coming.
L.A. Johnson narrated this story. Mr. Johnson was easy to follow and fun to listen to. He was able to narrate each character as I imagined them. Mr. Johnson brought out the best and even the worst of each character. Mr Johnson narrated both the male and female characters with ease. The narration added to the overall experience of this story.

A perfect twist to fairytale
Kurokoneko has delivered yet another twist to fairytale story. This time it’s a perfect twist to Alice in the wonderland. The story was interesting and fun with a surprising touch of love story. This is the second time I’ve heard L.A. Johnson ‘s narration and I am absolutely amazed by his brilliance. He was totally phenomenal. He captured the moods and emotions of character and really brought this story to life. It was a delightful listen , I really enjoyed it.

Very good Audible book and story
Never really enjoyed Alice in Wonderland but I really liked this book. This whimsical story is filled with twists and turns that are like putting a puzzle together and one piece affects all the others. Many of the characters are cunning and diabolical. I mainly read romance books but this was a refreshing change of pace.

Nice Twist on a Classic
I feel bad for only giving 3 stars, but that’s only because this isn’t my typical kind of read. I was gifted an audio version of the book, otherwise I wouldn’t have looked twice at it.
I was genuinely surprised at how immersed I got into the story. The narrator did an excellent job. I knew it was a retelling of Alice in Wonderland, but the twists and turns it kept taking me kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. I thought the way all the characters stories came together in the end was brilliant! The book doesn’t necessarily end on a cliffhanger, but there are still several outstanding questions that need to be answered.
Will I pick up another book to find out the rest of the story? I’m not sure yet. But, it’s been a few days since I’ve finished it and I’m still thinking about the story. I will see how long these thoughts rattle around in my head.

Really enjoyed your retelling of this classic fairytale!! It was quirky and fun and a bit raunchy. It made me laugh and smile and blush a little. I listened to Allister in Wonderland and Petra Pan. Have to look into the third book!!! Thank you

as delightfully colorful as its cover !
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Did I feel an emotional connection to the characters: yes
Would I listen to it again: yes
Were there any parts I found annoying: words like eek and ak which 'read' more like a sound were a bit off on the narration. And the end of each chapter has a "to be continued in chapter #" which felt superfluous and makes me wonder if this was written as something like a serial a chapter at a time.
Story comments: Was a delightfully vivid and colourful retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Action packed with very cleverly written twist's on the traditional characters. The only negative for me was the (albeit briefly) cooking of the fathers organs into a stew - this was a bit much for me and I would have preferred a different direction.
Narrator comments: L. A. Johnson is new to me and overall did a reasonable performance. There were a couple of mispronunciations and the narration felt a little flat in a few places but overall no major complaints.

Original Take
I was given this audiobook in exchange of a voluntary and honest review. It’s not often you can find an original take on an old classic but this book is just that. I love the way it was reimagined and the gender roles reversed.
The narrator was excellent and production quality was high.
Definitely a story to listen to again.
