About this listen

The one that got away...

Six years ago, Tacitus Everard, the Marquess of Dare, made the worst mistake of his life: courting vibrant, sparklingly beautiful Lady Calista Chance - until she broke his heart.

Is the only one she wants.

Six years ago, Calista Holland made the biggest misstep of her life: begging handsome, wealthy Lord Dare to help her run away from home - then marrying someone else.

Now, trapped by disaster in a country inn, Calista has one day to convince the marquess she's worth a second chance, and Dare has one goal, to steer clear of dejà vu. But when the day takes an unimaginable twist, what will it take to end up in each other's arms?

Contains mature themes.

Compelling and absorbing relationship with just a twist of magic

I've read hundreds of historicql romance novels in the last couple of years and this is among the best! I've shied away magical twists in historical romance because it often feels like nothing more than a gimic. But here it truly contributes to the character development.

80% sad, 20% happy

I absolutely loved the first book in this series (listened twice) based on Freaky Friday…body switch idea but this one, based on Groundhog Day was just sort of a bummer because most of it was filled with the heroine’s lonely melancholy and the short days didn’t allow the characters to slowly fall in love over time. So the end felt rushed and contrived. It was probably just that the constraints of the plot didn’t lend themselves well to romance?

Marvelous narrator of a somewhat quirky story

I found this book by Katharine Ashe to be mostly enjoyable and amusing. Dare and Calista were both intelligent. Dare was a great relief from the usual rake in need of reforming. Calista was a woman who had gotten through a terrible ordeal with her loving heart intact. Ashe very nearly managed to bring me through the Ground Hog Day repetitious days without putting me to sleep. I gave the story 4 stars due to this, although I can understand the appeal of rewriting the same day with variations.
My advice to readers is to stick with the book because, in the end, it is sweetly and satisfactorily resolved.

Groundhogs Day!

I didn't like the movie (Groundhog Day) and I definitely don't like it regurgitated into a historical romance audio book.
